"Hey, are you going to that welcome event today on Main?" Anna asked as her and Simran walked out of lecture together.
"Yeah, I was actually going to meet a friend there, are you going?"
"I was thinking about it. My next class isn't for a few hours and I don't really feel like working on anything right now." The weather had warmed up once again. Regularly, it would have been starting to cool into Autumn this late in September but the sun was beating down hard and it didn't require more than a t-shirt and maybe a light cover for the evenings to be outside.
The two girls decided to head over to what the school had dubbed the main pathway through the campus as its Main Street. Directly in the middle of the "street" was a large open green field that housed many activities for frosh as well as offering a spot for people to sit outside and lounge on warm days like today.
There was already a crowd by the time Simran and Anna showed up to the edge of the large field. Large banners had been set up, tied to the trees surrounding area and a few people had face painted the school colours of red and black on them.
"Maybe we should drop our stuff off first."
Twenty minutes later, the girls were back except this time without their bags and extra items. Someone was shouting through a megaphone about organizing everybody into teams. Simran still didn't know what the actual activity was as she had forgotten to check the information online but whatever it was, it would take a while to get started judging from all the people around them who were doing anything but organizing themselves.
Simran felt a tap on her shoulder and looked back to see no one there. When she turned around, Brayden was standing in front of her with a devilish smirk with his hands behind him.
"Made you look." He winked at her.
He introduced himself to Anna and nodded towards the speaker who was currently being drowned out by the noise of something behind them. A line of students were pulling small, kid wagons behind them. The contents of the wagons however were concealed by large blue covers that made it all a little more strange.
"What's going on?"
"I think they had a scavenger hunt or something planned but that's been done before."
Simran raised an eyebrow in question as she saw the mischievous glint in Brayden's eyes.
"What did you do?"
"Nothing...yet."
The leader of the wagon line was walking through the crowd of people now as they cleared away a path. There were ten wagons in total and by the time they had reached halfway to the front where the speaker had gone quiet, there were loud murmurings throughout the crowd.
"What is that?"
"Is that paint?"
"Balloons?"
"Paint fight!"
"Food fight!"
Someone let out a squeal and before Simran could search for the source, Brayden had reached for something under the cover and the wagon and turned around to spray the people around him with a water gun.
Everyone kicked into action then and lunged for the rest of the water weapons that had been hiding in the wagons. Simran and Anna both shrieked as the water hit them and they took off running in the other direction. Grabbing a water gun that had fell on the floor, Simran tried to spray Brayden back as he chased her and Anna away from the crowd.
The event had turned into a full blown water fight and went on until everyone had emptied the water guns to the last drop. Simran was breathing heavily as she looked out to find either Brayden or Anna who she had lost a while ago.
