I was a very shielded child. The only time I traveled was with my family. Even then, it was never outside the United States. The farthest I've been away from home was New York. Even then, I only went there to look at colleges. So to tell me that I was going on a trip to Mexico...Now that was absurd.
"C-Cancun? As in Cancun, Mexico?", I asked.
"No, Cancun as in Canada.", Sophia said with sass.
"Yes, Mexico!", she shouted.
"Aren't you excited?!", Kaitlyn asked me.
"Oh my god yes! I've never even been outside of the US."
"We are finally going on a road trip!", Sophia screamed.
"Hold up, I haven't even asked my parents yet.", I said.
"You are twenty years old, you don't need permission.", Kaitlyn said with her hands on her hips.
"Precisely.", Sophia agreed.
"Be that as it may, how did you even get the tickets?".
"My dad got it for us as a birthday present.", Kaitlyn said.
"Isn't your birthday in like June?", I asked.
"It's an early birthday present.", Sophia said.
"I should at least make sure my parents are ok with this.", I said.
"Okay Miss goody two shoes, you can ask mommy and daddy.", Sophia said with a pinch of sarcasm.
"Don't patronize me.", I said giving her attitude.
"Mom and dad, can you come here for a moment?", I shouted.
"What did you need from us?", my dad asked.
"My friends and I want to go to Cancun.", I said.
The expressions on their faces allowed me to know this wasn't going to be an easy conversation, they stared at each other, then back at me. I didn't know what they were going to say, but I knew they were more than likely going to say no and then question my judgment of wanting to leave the state. But I really desired to go, and like Kaitlyn said I'm twenty years old, I'm an adult, and I don't need their permission for anything anymore. I just hope they know that, and respect that.
"Mexico? Why would you want to go there?", my mom asked.
"I don't want you going to Cancun.", my dad said folding his arms.
"I'm an adult. I can do what I please.", I said.
"I was just simply informing you of what was happening.".
"I thought you were asking their permission.", Kaitlyn whispered in my ear.
I gave Kaitlyn a look, and by the way, she reacted, she knew it was my way of telling her to shut up.
"Honey, this isn't a good idea.", my mom said.
"What if you get taken, just like that movie?".
"That could always be a possibility. Except I'm no Liam Neeson.", my dad said looking away.
"I highly doubt that would happen.", I said.
Then out of nowhere my brother Manuel walked in, he is the nosiest person you will ever know.
"What's going on?", Manuel asked.
"Eva wants to go to Mexico.", my dad explained.
"Eva wants to go to Mexico? That's just stupid.", he laughed.
