Morning arrived sooner than anyone wanted. Unfortunately it was Saturday, and John had returned home extremely late as expected. Everyone was asleep by the time he got home, so nobody knew exactly when he got home. "Rain," their mom said softly, walking into the room. Zach's sister, Rain, looked up at their mom. "Hide in the closet, Zach," Zach looked at her, Rain getting into the closet confused. "Hide under Rain's bed." Zach, confused, got under Rain's bed, hearing his mom leave and the front door open, then shut. Zach and Rain stayed in their hiding spots, fear growing in them.
What felt like hours passed and they heard sirens. Police sirens. Police came through the door and to their parent's room. "Put the gun down!" Gunshots. Zach felt his heart race. He didn't know if the police or John had been shot. Silence filled the house. Footsteps came from the master bedroom and to Rain and Zach's room. "Deputy James, you can come out now," a voice sounded. Zach and Rain slowly came out of hiding, Deputy James standing in the doorway. "Your mom is at the station. She told us she couldn't leave with you cause she knew if she took you with her and John woke up, he'd be gone before we could get here," Deputy James explained. Zach and Rain followed the deputy to his cruiser.
A short drive later and they arrived at the station, walking in. Their mom was waiting there and they went to her quickly. Zach had a feeling that John wasn't done with them, a feeling coming from deep within him.
