The cool yet warm air of the African night embraced us in a warm hug as we started across the hotel grounds from our room to what Robert had said was going to be a relaxed meal. Because of this we decided not to dress up too much. Robert was wearing a white linen shirt and dark jeans and purple tinted glasses with his toes peeking from the bottom of his jeans, clinging on to the white flip flops. I was wearing a floaty flowery dress with sandals and my favourite necklace. Robert led me to a small restaurant; still part of the hotel grounds, for you dare not go outside the hotel grounds, not in Kenya. The restaurant seemed to specialise in seafood as the entire place was decorated with fake fish and a huge fishing net hung from the ceiling. That was all I had the chance to take in before we were moving again. From what I had seen all Robert did was state his name to the waitress. She smiled, gave a slight nod and led us towards the beach. I had to admit I was confused, I thought we were going to dinner but I would be fine with a walk along the beach also. It turned out both was wrong. The waitress led us down a candles lit path along the beach and to a dining table surrounded by more candles, she pulled out my seat for me and then left, stating she would return in a few minutes to take our order.

“Robert did you do all this?” I ask while gesturing around me.

“All for you my dear” he responded and our lips met as we stretched to meet each other over the table.

“Don’t worry my dear” he continued “I won’t be doing this every night; this was just a late graduation / first day of holiday celebration meal.”

“Not that I would complain about eating like this every night but I’m glad and thank you Robert, for the meal and just…..for this” I say as I gesture around me. I couldn’t quite believe it.

“There is just something about this place” I continue “I love how it makes me feel. I have yet to find anywhere else that I love as much.”

“Not even where you live?” asked Robert.

“No, I hate where I live, I only live there because my Mum used to. She picked it not me.”

“Ah I see, well I do have one place in mind that I hope you will love more than here.”

“Oh yeah and where would that be?” I asked.

“That would be telling.”

“Oh you big tease you.” I was used to his teasing now.

This was meet with a huge grin and a chuckle from Robert. We finished our meal or fresh fish, of course, while planning out two week holiday with each other. I decided I would keep a diary in order to not forget this amazing time.

Monday (day 2 of holiday)

Today we started off the day by being late for breakfast because we were to interested in our bed, luckily the lovely chef whipped us something up quickly. I managed to convince Robert to spend a few hours lying by the pool. He never likes to keep still, always wants to be doing something. I managed to trade him my few hours by the pool for his few hours of learning how to surf, his activity for the day. The evening was started with a lovely meal in a cosy corner of the restaurant. We rounded up the evening with a stroll along the beach and stayed up far too late watching movies. We fell asleep in each other’s arms.

Tuesday (day 3)

After my failed attempt to learn to surf yesterday it was once again my turn to pick what we did. I decided on a relaxing day in preparation for our journey to the actual safari camp tomorrow. I opted for a couples massage. I had to admit it was extremely hard to keep myself from jumping on Robert after seeing him all toned and covered in oil and lying so helplessly on a bed.  That was a very relaxing day, but we were looking forward to our safari adventure to begin.
