He was at your house for a cooking date when you accidentally chopped off one of your fingers. He freaked out but you just looked at him with a sympathetic smile as your finger grew back.

How he found out:
Turned out your Hizashi's cousin, and the reason that the loud man is so terrified of bugs. Toshi asked you why you did it, you told him it was an accident because you had just got your quirk and he just so happened to be there to witness it.
