"hey, wheeler, has anyone besides your mom told you that you look lovely today?" jane smirked as she placed her stuff on her desk, which she shared with mike. "or is your mom the only person that lies to you?"

"you see, i don't need anyone to tell me i look lovely today." mike huffed, and moved his hair to a side with a single move of his head. "i know i do."

"yeah? in what crazy universe?"

"silence, class." the chemistry teacher walked into the classroom, the noise the students were doing subsiding as the woman cleared her throat. "today, you'll be doing a diagnostic exam so that i can see how to work with all of you"

the class groaned in unison, making the teacher roll her eyes. a week had already passed since the first day of school - and mike and jane's first encounter after years - and yet they were all already done with school.

the woman licked her finger - something both jane and mike found gross - and started giving out the tests.

"ew." jane simply said, making mike turn his head to her. "why does she have to lick her finger and then touch the paper? i don't want her saliva on my test!"

"it's kinda gross, yeah." mike agreed. "and she licks her finger as if it was some kind of pop-sickle, she will probably provoque her own vomit if she continues doing that."

jane giggled, the teacher clearing her throat next to her as she put the test on jane's desk. "miss hopper, i expect you to be quiet during the test, or else i'll have to fail you."

"i'm sorry, miss díaz, it won't happen again." jane blushed, since she hadn't been called out by a teacher in a long time. "it was wheeler's fault! he made me laugh!"

"you talked to me first!"

"that doesn't matter!"

"both of you, shut up!" the teacher scolded them, making jane jump startled and mike snicker.

mike tried to focus on his test, and did his best to try to ignore jane's casual glances at his paper, but eventually lost his temper. "can you stop copying me?"

"cin yi stip cipying mi?" jane teased, and rolled her eyes. "just don't pay attention to me, and shut the hell up. i dont know shit about chemistry and i cannot fail a test."

"fuck you!" mike said under his breath, elbowing her as he groaned.

"you wish!"

"okay class, you may continue with your assignments."

jane clapped to herself, eagerly grabbing a pencil and some brown paint that matched the color of her hair.

"wheeler." the teacher called, his eyes trailing from his phone to the curly haired boy. "trade seats with mayfield, hopper and her have been a little too chatty lately."

"shit." mike and jane both whispered in unison. she groaned, as her best friend looked at her apologetically and left her seat and the teacher abandoned the classroom.

"wheeler." jane greeted, giving him a toothy smile before flipping him off.

"hopper." mike smirked as he sat down, placing his self portrait in front of him.

"you know, i don't think that color matches your skin." jane pointed with her pencil at mike's painting, who frowned and squinted his eyes.

"really? i think it's a good match."

"nah, it's not pale enough." jane giggled. "you should try white, that's a better option for you."

"you should try not giving your opinion when it is not asked for."

"you should try to fix that big brown stain on your portrait."

"which one?" mike wondered, taking a hand to his chin. "i don't see a- WHAT THE FUCK?"

jane passed her pencil all over mike's painting laughing, staining it all over with brown paint. "that one."

mike looked at his painting with wide eyes, his mouth opened wide before he started slowly laughing at first, and the fully crackling up. "you should try to fix that big blue stain on your face."

"don't you- HOLY SHIT!" jane gasped as mike painted a straight line over her nose, laughing as the entire class looked at them in utter shock. "you're dead."

"you know, blue is your color."

the brunette put her whole fist inside the red paint bucket, and then smacked mike's face with the palm of her hand. "red isn't yours, honey."

mike groaned as he grabbed the pink paint bucket from the desk next to his, and put it over jane's head before letting it all spill all over her.

jane grabbed another pink paint bucket and splashed mike with it. "now, pink is your color!"

"what the heck is going on here?" the pair turned their heads to the doorway, only to find their art teacher looking at them enraged. "wheeler, hopper, to the principal's office. NOW!"

"please, principal miller, i can't get suspended! my perfect record can't get screwed just because a stupid nerd decided to paint my face instead of his own, which was the assignment!" jane was panicking, mike noticed.

"i have another solution for the two of you." the grown man offered, leaning on his desk as his glance trailed from jane to mike. "you can get suspended, or decorate the new area that we are opening for the school's library."

"wait, what?" mike and jane asked in unison, making the principal roll his eyes.

"we are opening a new creativity development area in the library that will be all about art, and it needs to be painted. you can either get suspended, or paint the whole room, together, every saturday for four hours until i approve the final product."

"i'd rather get expelled than work with michael every saturday." jane said under her breath, making mike snort next to her.

"what did you say, miss hopper?" the principal asked, looking at her expectantly.

"i-i said that i'd love to help the school by painting a new addition to our institution and i am very much sorry for my inexcusable actions, that i assure you won't happen again."

"what the hell?" mike whispered, and cleared his throat once the principal looked at him. "yeah, i'd love to participate too."

"okay, you may leave now." the principal said, and as the two were standing up from their chairs, the principal started to laugh. "and by the way, you are not allowed to clean yourselves for the rest of the day. show your classmates your art."

the next day, almost every single girl - and some boys - arrived to school with at least one stroke of paint on their face and clothes, since they had absolutely adored jane hopper's 'super original and modern' style from the day before.

jane didn't know if she should laugh at the sight of more than half of the school with paint on them because of her, or cry because of the fact that she would now have to work with and see wheeler every saturday for at least three months.

but hey, she's sure she can get through it without strangling mike, she may hate his guts but she knows how to control herself.

at least she can't hate him more than she already does.
