Northridge High. That's a pretty sad name for a school that's supposed to be for "privileged" teenagers. Shouldn't these kinds of schools have "Academy" in the title? That's what is in the books I've read at least. The weird thing about this school is that it looks like a freaking college campus. It definitely won't be fun walking to my classes.
"It isn't as crazy as it looks, hun." My mom stated as if reading my mind.
I scoffed. She's one to talk she isn't the one going to school here.
"The auditorium is in that building over there, there's a gym in there as well." My mom commented, driving by a wide building. I looked at my mom suspiciously. How does she know that?
"I really think that you will like this school." My mom continued our one sided conversation, driving around the schools campus. "It has lots of activities for you, no dress code..."
I tuned my mom out after that, not saying anything, and watched my mom slowly drive around. Once we got to the biggest building, the car stopped, and my mom took the keys out of the ignition. Nodding slightly, my mom got out of the car and waited for me to join her. Getting out of the car was an absolute struggle. I really didn't want to be in school already when we literally just arrived yesterday. My mom lead to way into the high school, I followed close on her heels.
The inside of the school was even bigger than the outside. That freaked me out more than anything else. Our footsteps echoed in the empty hallway of the school. After a few turns and quiet mumbles of astonishment at the art on the walls, my mom knocked on a door in the middle of the hall. I glanced at the sign beside the door.
Student Services.
I furrowed my eyebrows a little confused. The Student Services rooms usually aren't in the middle of the first floor. These rooms are supposed to be in the front of the schools, right? Should I suggest to my mom that this is bizarre? Knowing her she'd probably say that there was nothing wrong with schools being different. Or maybe it's just me...
The door opened revealing a tall man with sandy blonde hair, brown eyes, and thick glasses. He beamed at my mother and gave her a massive grin. Creepy.
"Hello, you must be Mrs.Chambers," Thick glasses said, turning to me. "And you must be Carson. I'm Mr. Checkroun."
Mr. Checkroun offered me his hand, which I took gingerly. He stepped aside and gestured for my mom and I to come into his office. When we were seated in the chairs in front of his huge black desk Mr. Checkroun closed the door behind us. Weird. I looked around the office blankly, the walls were filled with posters encouraging kids to believe in themselves. Nothing out of the ordinary there, but I was still on edge about this place.
"So we already made Carson's schedule for the school year. The school day normally starts at 7:30 and ends at 2:20. There are all types of extracurricular activities that she can join here as well." Mr.Checkroun handed my mom a few papers to look over before sitting behind his desk.
My mom said the same thing about the extracurricular activities...
"Carson." I turned to face my mom, she was handing me my schedule. I took it from her hands scanning it quickly. My first class was in the library to be an assistant for the librarians. Then I had Algebra II, English 11 Honors, Piano 1, World History, and Chemistry. God, this schedule looks horrendous. Chemistry is going to be a bitch. I could barely pass Biology last year. I slid my bag off my shoulder to put the schedule in it,my mom stopped me, putting a hand on my arm.
"Why don't you go get ahead start and try to go find the library?" She inquired, giving me a meaningful look.
"Don't you want me to stay and--"
"Go find the library, Carson, your first day starts in 25 minutes." She smiled, glancing at the clock.
Nodding firmly, I got up, put my messenger bag back on my shoulder, and said my goodbyes before leaving the room. Rereading the paper in my hand, I saw that the library's room number was 231. So I needed to find the stairs, that is gonna to be difficult. It's times like these where I wish high schools had maps then everything would be simple. My eyes were still glued on my paper as I walked down the hall when I suddenly bumped into someone.
Tearing my eyes from the paper in my hand, I saw a girl with stormy gray eyes and long dark brown hair. She glared at me with annoyance before shoving me away, hard. I winced, stumbling backward at the force of her push. Jesus, she's strong. I noticed that she had boxing gloves on her shoulder, and tattoos covering her arms. Holy. Shit.
"I...I'm so..." Before I could finish my apology she was walking around me with a look that could kill. I opened my mouth to try and continue what I was saying but the girl talked before I could form the words again.
"Watch where your going." I turned around to see her continuing to walk down the hall, not sparing me a glance. "Alexis, come on."
Alexis?
Turning back around I spotted a girl leaning against the wall smirking at me. She pushed herself off of the wall and made her way towards me.
"I'll catch up with you, Sarah." Alexis called after her friend once she was in front of me.
The first thing that I noticed about her at that moment had to be her hazel eyes. Those eyes were mesmerizing. Then my eyes trailed to her hair, the short light brown hair that made her look even more gorgeous. Her mouth was moving, telling me something that my brain couldn't comprehend yet as I stared at her.
"Sorry. What?" I cleared my throat.
"I'm sorry about my friend, she's always like that. Don't worry too much about it she's a marshmellow on the inside."
"Are you new or is it just me?" Alexis looked me up and down quickly. I felt my mouth go dry. Did she just check me out? Not trusting the words that might come out of my mouth if I talked, I nodded in reply.
"I'll show you around." She raised her eyebrows at me.
"Y-yeah, I need to go to the library. I need to find the stairs so I could go to room 231...which is the room for the...library. You know...where books are..." I babbled. God, I hate being nervous.
Alexis laughed. "You're adorable. Follow me and I'll take you to the library, where the books are."
