"What!" I cried out. I couldn't believe it, I just couldn't. "I'm sorry Ash, but there's just no work here and I can't provide for us." I shut my eyes closed, fighting back those dreadful tears. Crying is never going to solve anything, I told my self. "B...but we can't." I hated that sound in my voice, it sounded so shaky and week. I felt a hand rest on my shoulder, I opened my eyes to look back at my uncles kind face. His face was always red and happy looking, but I could see the sadness in his icy blue eyes. His head was mostly bald on top, what hair he had left was powdery white with silver strands. He pulled me in for one of his famous bear hugs, his slim figure aloud room for him to hug any one, any size. That's why his hugs were the best, there was always room for you.

I heard a door open from behind me, we both looked to see who it was, it was my Auntie. Her hair was died a blond and reached down to her chin. Her hair was cut in layers and always looked windblown. I watched as her light blue eyes locked on me through her plastic black rectangle glasses. "Oh, Hun." She said opening her arms as I ran into her embrace. "I'm so sorry." She whispered. "I'm sorry we have to move." I took a deep breath and pulled away. "It's, it'll be okay." I said. I wasn't crying because I was going to miss my friends, or that I was going to miss this town, I was crying because this was where my parents graves were.

My gaze darted left and right as I walked through the fount doors of the school. I couldn't believe how fast life has been. Right after I was told we had to move, we had to pack everything the next morning. In what felt like only a day we packed and then unpacked into the new house. So far, I liked living here, we moved into a fairly big house a half hour away from the city. I felt so much better living in such a wide open space instead of that cramped small house in the city. So far everything was going great. Except for saying good bye to my parents. My Auntie and Uncle took me to see their graves before we left. I stayed there for a good 20 minuets before my Auntie said it was about time we go.

School was probably going to be the next hardest part for me. I wasn't good at making friends, no one seemed to have anything in common with me. All anyone cared about was clothes, social status, boyfriends and what they were going to do next weekend. I rolled my eyes at the thought. I looked around the empty halls, blue and grey lockers lined up every hallway. The school was a lot smaller then my old school, but my old school was in the city, this school was a small country school. I wandered around looking for the Science room, that was going to be my home room for the year. I peered into the window of a classroom that seemed to be empty. It looked like a science room, but no one was there. As I was looking I felt something jerk at my foot, I turned around quickly to watch someone falling face first into the floor. I put my hand over my mouth as I started to laugh. I always laughed at the stupidest of things. "Are you okay?" I asked, trying to hold in my laugh. I don't know why it seemed so funny, some random person just fell. Even though I was laughing I felt sorry for them. "Here let me help you up." I said, reaching out a hand, still grinning from ear to ear. The boy looked up and reached for my hand. "T....thanks." He nervously said as he came to his feet. His hair was a little bit curly and dark brown. His eyes hid behind black "hipster" glasses, but anyone could see they were a deep ocean blue. "I'm really sorry." I said still trying not to laugh. "It...it's alright." He said in a shaky voice. "I...I was in a hurry and didn't see you." I looked down at the ground and realized that his books were scattered all over the hall way. I leaned down to pick up a book at our feet, he had done the same and our heads mashed together. "Ow!" I cried out as I started to rub my head. "Oh! S...sorry!" He said with wide eyes. "It's alright." I chuckled. "I guess that was your pay back for me tripping you." I said as I rubbed the back of my head. He gave out a nervous laugh then put out his hand. "I...I'm Adam." He said. I took his hand and gave it a little shake. "Ashley." I said. "But you can just call me Ash." I hated being called Ashley. He gave me a shy smile. "Do you know where the science room is?" I asked pulling back my hand. Then I started to wonder, when did teenagers start shaking other peoples hands? "Uh, down that hallway up the ramp, first room to the left." He said as he turned to point behind him. "Thanks! Sorry again." I said. He blushed as he smiled and looked down at the ground. "Yeah, I'm sorry too, uh, a...about your...head." With that I started to walk down the hall way. "See you later!" I called to him as I walked backwards and waved good bye. He gave a small and shy wave and watched me for awhile before grabbing his other two books and disappeared around the corner.

I stared at my reflection in the vanity mirror in my room. I was lost in thought, thinking about my parents. I sat on the stool in the dimly lit room in my pj's. I wonder, I though as I started to brush my fiery red hair. I wonder if I got my hair from my mother, or my father. I stopped brushing to look closer at my hair. It was cut just below my shoulders, and it always looked like a curly mess, it never really bugged me though, just other people. What about my eyes? I thought as I leaned in closer. My eyes were toasty brown with little flecks of gold. Suddenly i heard a knock at the door. "Ash?" I turned to see my Uncle. He must have just got back from all his interviews he had today. "How was your first day kiddo?" He asked. I shrugged. "It was school, they introduced all the teachers at a assembly and explained that they were still doing renovations and about safety and all that jazz." I said while doing a little jazz hands. "How was your interviews?" I asked. He shrugged "It was interviews, they asked me questions and I took tests and all that jazz." We both laughed. "Did you meet any one?" He asked. "Just teachers, my home room teacher Ms.Bell was really nice, I don't think there was anyone else." My voice trailed of as I thought for a moment. "Oh! I accidentally tripped some guy in the hallway, I can't remember his name. Other then that, no one really." My Uncle gave me his best fake stern look. "You don't happen to like this guy whose name you can't remember." He teased as he elbowed my ribs. I laughed. "Don't worry Uncle, I'm not about to start dating anyone anytime soon." He chuckled as he ruffled my hair. "That's my girl." I reached under his arm to ruffle his 'hair', then we both started to wrestle for each other's head. "Hey!" I cried as he pulled on a chunk of my hair. "No fair! I can't pull on your hair!" "That's why I don't have any, all you little munchkins keep pulling them out." He laughed as he started to tickle my sides. "Alright you two brats!" My Auntie called from the doorway with a playful smile. "Time for bed." "Awww." Uncle and I both chimed. We both laughed. "Goodnight kiddo." "Goodnight." I replied before giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Hey! Were's my hug and kiss." Auntie chuckles. I got up from my chair and have my Auntie a hug and kiss. "Goodnight." "Night." She said with a kind smile. As they left I went out into the kitchen for a glass of water. I couldn't help but notice the bright moon and the millions of stairs in the sky. I filled up my glass of water then went out the door in the dinning room that lead out to a deck. I looked up at the beautiful bright lights in the night sky and wondered what would life had been like if my parents were still alive. How would it be different from the life I had now with my Auntie and Uncle. As I watched the night sky in wonder I couldn't help but feel like there was someone or something watching me. I looked at the ground, I didn't see any animals, but still I had a quick shiver run down my spine. Something was watching me, it was making the hair on the back of my neck stand up, but I couldn't see it. My eyes darted around the woods, maybe an owl or something? I questioned my self, my muscles started to tense. "Hello." A unknown voice said. I turned around quickly and dropped my glass of water at what I saw. "W...who are you?"
