The anticipation grows.

"4"

I'm going to burst with excitement.

"3"

I eagerly await.

"2"

Almost there.

This is it...

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!!" the whole neighbourhood yelled.

I watch as the dark purple sky is quickly filled with lanterns. Often makes me wonder where they end up.

"I'm so excited!!" I hear my best friend, Ellie, call out. I ignored, too focused on the beautifully lit sky.

"Zoë!!" Ellie calls out,

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath,
"I want to make history," I blurted out.

Ellie looked at me with a perplexed look on her face.

"What kind of history?"

"History I'll remember forever," I continued, "I want to live,"

Hi. I'm Zoë. I've never done something in my life worth remembering.

By that I mean, I've never done something exciting. Something big.

I'm a pretty boring person, thinking of it.
No history, no exciting life stories or memories to tell.

But hopefully that's going to change.

Hopefully this year.

It's 2018.
What better time to start than now? A whole new year, a fresh beginning.

One thing I've always wanted to do was visit LA. It's been my dream since I was five years old.

Maybe it was the flashing lights or striking people that attracted me, or perhaps the beautiful sunsets and busy streets that's made it stick with me for so long.

It's where I want to be.
It's where I need to be.

Oh, the things I'd love to do, the wishes I wish would come true.

But I have to wait. It's not the right time.

Since we're back to school in pretty much a week, Ellie and I decided to try and make the most of it.

And by that I mean, hanging out as much as we can for the next week.

We sat on the bench that views the beach.

Ellie suddenly spoke up.

"I have a question,'
"Yes?"
"What did you mean last night? With the whole history thing,"

I sighed and cringed slightly at my own words coming from last night.

"I'm just not who I feel I am meant to be,"

Ellie raised an eyebrow,
"Well who do you feel you're meant to be? Please don't say a stripper-"

I laughed at her silliness,
"Hell naw" "I don't quite know who I'm meant to be yet," "All I know is that the Zoë I am now doesn't feel right. I want to be more... out there? But I don't know how,'

"Baby steps," Ellie replied,
"What?" I asked,
"Start our by doing more things. We're starting the second last term of school and I mean, it wouldn't hurt to go to a few parties you know? Experiment,"

"Not a bad idea actually," I said, once I thought about it,
"I always have brilliant ideas," Ellie joked,
"You wish," I laughed.
