"Stay Quiet!" Eron whispered to the five teens behind him as the sirens began to get closer.
The blue and red lights seemed to illuminate the sky as it slowly pulled up beside the alleyway that they hid inside of. The seven of them held their breath as the black cruiser's doors opened revealing two men with flashlights.
"They have to be around here." One of the officers spoke plainly, his voice sounding raspy and hoarse. If it hadn't have been such a dangerous situation Eron probably would have mimicked it to make the group laugh, But unfortunately, this wasn't a drill.
It had been two months since he ran into these stray's hideout where they were barely surviving. Atlanta had been hard on them and with no other place to go Eron couldn't leave them to fend for themselves. In the past two months, Eron had taught them how to find food, to stay hidden, and most importantly master their individual abilities. But now he knew that he had only made more trouble for them.
The men with flashlights took their time slowly sweeping the street before finally coming to a pause at the beginning of the alleyway. It was just after 1 a.m. which meant not many cars were passing by on the street and that meant no one would witness what was happening. Eron cursed himself internally for not keeping a better track on the time.
The men whispered something to each other and then both looked down the long dark path. The bricks were so old and corroded that it was almost impossible to tell where one stopped, and another began.
"We know you're in there," One of them said firmly. Gripping the pistol attached to his belt to appear more intimidating. Eron knew better than to believe that these men were normal Police Officers, aside from what they lacked in the typical officer uniform there was a very distinguishable symbol of an eclipse on their car. These men were no doubt agents of Nova, which only made the situation worse for him.
One of the older boys known as Zeke came behind Eron leaned closer to him, trying his best to be as quiet as possible. "We can take 'em," the young boy urged. He couldn't have been over sixteen, Eron had come to recognize him as the leader of their little group. Because he was older, he naturally assumed responsibility for the younger kids.
"There's only two of them, all we gotta do is knock 'em unconscious." He said seriously, looking at the other boys in the group. They all nodded feigning confidence but Eron knew better.
He could feel their fear coursing through them, he could feel it just as if it was his own. He knew that these boys told themselves they were ready to fight but, in all actuality, they couldn't do it. One of them would freeze at the sight of the gun and the others would scatter when one got caught.
Eron shook his head no, "We can't fight them," he said in a hushed tone. The men now beginning to walk towards them flashing their lights from side to side. "They have guns, it's too dangerous."
But the men were closing in on them and he knew they had to do something, Eron thought as quickly as he could. He turned his head to look at one of the smallest of the boys, he was around the age of twelve.
"Ned, do you think you can shift everyone out of here?" Eron asked, knowing the boy hated using his ability. He always complained of the pain and nausea he felt afterward. Although he didn't want to put too much pressure on him, Eron knew that it was the only way to get them out of the situation.
The boy hesitated before looking at him, "I don't know where to shift to and I can only do two at a time." the boy spoke a little too loudly for the situation. Eron immediately cupped his mouth with his hand, glancing around the trash to make sure the men hadn't heard him.
