It had been around three months since Eron left, which meant it had been around three months since no one really knew what they were doing anymore.

Three months of nothing, no emotions, no location, no communication from him whatsoever.

Amarra was beginning to think the worst had happened to him. She was a realist after all, and even with all of Eron's skill set, it would be hard to travel without Nova noticing he was back on the grid. She had tried to warn him, but she knew he wouldn't listen. Rage was radiating off of him and Derek had pushed him to his edge.

If he had stayed it probably would have just ended in more injury and fighting. But even with all of that, somewhere deep in her heart, she wished that he had been willing to stay for her. But she wouldn't admit this to herself, there were too many dangers lurking to sit around and pout about romance.

She shuddered, although she couldn't tell if it was from the memory of that day or the cold wind that had begun to blow. She was sitting around fifty feet high on one of the branches of the tree she had perched herself in to watch the perimeter. There were always six people watching different angles and sides of the forest that they had hidden themselves in; a recent idea thought of by Derek after they attacked the latest Nova transport.

You can only mess with Nova so much before they begin to find a way to eliminate the problem. We had gathered around three hundred AWOL's altogether. Eron was the one who suggested grouping and hiding in the first place, he thought that maybe if everyone could come together they could think of a way to fight against Nova. Derek agreed, but his methods were always more aggressive.

Since Eron had left, Derek went fully on the offensive side, sabotaging and attacking whenever he could in order to free more AWOL's.

People with abilities were nicknamed AWOL's because they always seemed to disappear without any notice. The ones who weren't lucky enough to get away were taken by Nova and all their family knew was that they had done something that was bad enough for the government to arrest them.

Abilities were hidden from the general public, anyone that witnessed them or claimed to know about them were quickly met with Nova's Telepaths. They could alter and erase memories as they needed and didn't have to answer to anyone for their questionable practices.

Best case: They simply forget about what they saw and live feeling like they're constantly missing something.

Worst case: They lose all of their memories, or worse they go crazy from having someone rip out pieces of their sanity.

The sun was beginning to disappear over the horizon when Rico, a shifter, appeared on a tree sitting across from hers. He was young, around sixteen if Amarra had to guess. She often wondered how hard it was for them to not be able to go home. To not be able to hear there mothers voices without Nova tracking the call back to them.

"Time to switch out," he said, obviously dreading that he was going to have to stare at trees for the next two to three hours; Oblivious of Amarra's thoughts. "You want me to shift you down?" He asked after she didn't move for a while, staring at the sky.

"No thanks," Amarra replied, fighting back a yawn. "I like the climb." She began to make her way down at a moderate pace. It wasn't like she hadn't done it several times and found her feet on solid ground in less than seven minutes. She took a moment to stretch before making her way to her shack. It was a decent size, hand-built from the first months of them hiding out there. She had only one picture sitting on the desk inside, her little sister sitting in her mom's lap.

She missed her old life, her old home. But she knew that if she returned, it wouldn't be long before she was taken. She gazed at the picture a few more seconds before laying it face down so that she could no longer see it. Attempting to not think about her family she changed clothes and laid down in her bed before closing her eyes and drifting to sleep.
