Crowns and Blades

Chapter 6

       Katlyn's body lay on the wooden table as lifeless as she had been when Ruth dragged her towards us. Most people had rushed to Katlyn but a few of us ran to Ruth. "OML Ruth are you okay?" i yell while shaking her. The leader rudely pushes me out of the way stating i need to give her space. Janeva is clinging onto her for dear life and silently thanking God she survived. Everyone has questions and Ruth has answers. Eventually the crowd around Katlyn disintegrates and Ruth is smothered with people.  I have been pushed to the back and i can hardly hear what Ruth is saying. I hear guards and guns then i hear a outbreak. Katlyn's mother is screaming her head off at Ruth "You killed my daughter! You and your mistakes!" No one tries to stop her yelling but something is done when she charges at Ruth with a knife gripped in her hand. I shove my brown hair out of my face that blends into the darkness and I yell "This is exactly what Layla wants!" I throw my hands up and everyone calms down as if in slow motion. When i pull my hands down it as if everything speeds up.  Ruth and Janeva turn there eyes to me in shock. No one else notices what just happened.

     I lie in my bed with Ruth below. She is still in shock of what just went down so i leave her alone. She turns around and gets out of her bed. She heads down the hall. I don't suspect anything until she turns to the kitchen. I clamber out after her. I find her digging through the cutlery draws. "You know playing with knives are dangerous!" she drops the fork she was clutching in her hand onto foot. I stare at the cut it made when she yanks the fork out again "Oh my Lord! Playing with forks are dangerous as well?" Ruth laughs but she's clearly in pain. i run over to her. Since it was her own attempt at death they will do nothing for her. Sh's losing blood quickly. I grab a knife and lice my hand. I have no idea what i'm doing. I pour it into a cup and tell her to drink it while i put all my weight on the hand i am laying on her foot.  When i see she has no blood left i try to fill it up. It's Ruth who tells me her cut has healed. I look at her in excitement. "Maybe i can bring Katlyn back!"

    We Janeva before we try it. I think Janeva hopes it works the most.  She and Katlyn got on like two peas in the same pod. We have a glass of my ruby blood and we are all awkwardly standing around her. It was as if we were playing light as a feather stiff as a board. Except we were trying to bring someone back from the dead not send them to death himself. We start what we are calling a ceremony. Ruth says sorry for her death then Janeva opens her mouth and shuts her mouth while i pour my own blood down her throat. We are all around her praying for her body to stir. It doesn't move it just starts turning it's tongue red from the stains of the blood. I turn around and give up. Janeva follows me.

 "Ruth?"

"She'll be fine." I know i am doubting her "She'll be better than fine!" 

"I know i will!" Ruth chirps in before Janeva can answer. I turn around and i hug her. We rely on each other and if she does not doubt herself then i do not doubt her. Janeva kisses her. I still can't believe Reva hasn't became official yet. "I just wish it worked." Ruth continues

"We all do." Janeva responds in a hushed voice, "But at least now we know Lenna can't bring back the dead." Ruth runs off back to bed and leaves me and Janeva on our own 

"So how do you do it?" she asks

"I don't know!" I respond

"Or you don't want me to know!"

"This is new to me as well Eva!"

"Ok well let's look at facts then!"

"There are no facts to look at!"

"Lenna! Listen. To. Me. There are facts!"

"Throw them at me then!" I am yelling now.

"Your 4th birthday. Princess Leonora 4th birthday she went missing..."

I continue, "My fourth birthday i arrived at the orphanage certain i'd been kidnapped!"

It all clicks "Layla is panicking since if anyone finds out Leonora is still alive she'll be taken off the throne!"

Eva looks at me "No one except us no of this. No one can know of this. Even Ruth. We don't know who's a spy here!"

  It feels wrong to be looking up what powers the queen can have without Ruth. It feels like something we would do with her. Eva has me persuaded though Ruth might be a spy despite the fact I've known her for multiple years. The one thing that persuaded me was hanging in my mind. The guards didn't kill Ruth and she did nothing to try and save Katlyn. It's right at the back of my mind but it's there. It means nothing as there are many things Ruth could've done but i can't put my finger on which one. What i heard of her story makes no sense. Thank the lord i didn't hear it all.
