The next day was a Saturday, and Kent had the day off. Phoebe was excited. Finally, they could go out on their anniversary. But when she went out of her bedroom, she found Kent lying down on the sofa, watching TV.

"Hey!" he said. He sat up and patted the spot next to him on the sofa. "Come here," he said. Phoebe sat beside him, and he gave her a side hug. "Man, I'm so glad I don't have a shoot today," he said as he chan- nel-surfed.

"Kent?"

"Yes?"

"Let's do something!"

"Like watch TV together?"

Phoebe hit him with a pillow.

"Ow!"

"Let's go out!"

"What?"

"Kent, it's our anniversary!"

"Well, what do you want to do outside?"

"Eat out, you know . . ."

"Well, we can just order something." Kent bent

down so he could reach the phonebook from under the coffee table and started browsing. "What do you feel like eating?"

"Not here!"

"Well, where? It's the same, wherever you eat." "It's not!"

Phoebe pouted and covered her face with the pillow. Why was Kent so dense sometimes? It's their anniversary, for crying out loud.

"Phoebe...come on..."

"Oh, you're awake. I made you breakfast," Manang Lourdes said as she started feather-dusting the fixtures on the side table.

"Come, Phoebe, let's eat." Kent got up, but Phoebe wouldn't budge.

"Do you two have any special plans for today?" the old lady asked.

"Yes," "Not really," Phoebe and Kent said together. "Manang, o!" Phoebe said.

"You should do something special together, Kent," the old lady said, looking over at Kent.

Kent looked at the caretaker then back at Phoebe, whose eyes were wide like an anime character. "Fine!"

"Yey!" Phoebe said, jumping from the sofa and hugging Kent. Perhaps because she was excited she couldn't contain herself, she kissed him on the cheek. "We're going to have so much fun!"

Just an hour after breakfast, Phoebe and Kent decided to get ready. But when Phoebe got out of the shower, Kent was his grumpy selfagain.

"I don't understand why we have to go to the mall," he said as they got in the car. Kent had his sunglasses and hat ready.

"Let's eat somewhere we haven't eaten before,"

Phoebe said. She rattled off about the restaurants in the mall that she wanted to try.

"Why don't you choose one already so we can head straight there?"

"Aren't we going window shopping? Do you want any gift?" Phoebe said.

"I'm okay, Phoebe. Plus, the weekend mall crowd— not my thing."

Phoebe pursed her lips and didn't say a word. What was wrong with Kent? Why was he acting this way?

Kent knew that he had to tell Phoebe the recent developments in his film project, but he couldn't find a way to simply inject it into their conversation. It was hard for him to enjoy her company when he had to think about the best way to break it to her. Plus, that strange phone call from a person called "Kit"—who was that, and why was he calling Phoebe?
