Kent's father was driving toward the hospital with Phoebe's, and after a moment of silence, Kent's dad spoke up. "I'm so sorry, I had no idea . . . They should've been under my watch—"

"It's okay. We should've expected this though. They're living under the same roof. I'm just really worried. I hope Phoebe's okay. I just wish they'd said something before. Then I could've sent someone to care for her. Then this wouldn't have happened."

Phoebe's father had taken the first flight in when he learned about Phoebe's situation. He then asked his in-law to drive him straight to the hospital after picking him from the airport. He was now distraught. Why did Phoebe not tell him? He'd always wanted them to be open to each other, but why did she feel the need to hide?

He looked out of the window and was surprised at what he saw.

"Stop the car!"
"What?"
"That's my daughter!" He pointed out to a girl wearing a big jacket and crossing the street in confusion.

Phoebe walked toward the memorial where her mother was buried. She wiped off the dust over her engraved name with the sleeve of the jacket and then knelt before it. Tears started to smear the surface of the tomb as she spoke.

"Mama...I miss you so much. I was going to be a mom too. But now my baby's gone. And it looks like Kent's gone too. I don't want to get hurt anymore. But I love him so much, and he's just—he's just playing with me."

"Phoebe?"
Phoebe looked up and saw her father.

After Kent got the call from his father, he could finally breathe again. But his heart couldn't stop pumping madly as he got into his car and drove to the cemetery. Why had Phoebe left the hospital in a rush?

As he arrived there, he rushed toward Phoebe and her father, who were sitting near the tombstone. He walked toward there and didn't stop even when his own father tried to stop him. As he got near, he heard Phoebe say the last words he was not prepared to hear.

"I want a divorce."

"No, Phoebe, please, you can't do this to me," he said.

Phoebe and her father turned around to see him standing there. Phoebe inched closer to her father and took his arm. She shook her head and wouldn't look at him.

"Phoebe, please. Will you—"

"I'm done with all your lies. I'm so tired." "Phoebe! That was my baby too!"
Phoebe simply shook her head. "Pa, let's go." Her father looked at her and said, "You two need to talk."

"No, Pa. There's nothing to say anymore." "There's plenty to say!" Kent said. "Don't do this,

Phoebe. Don't be unfair to me. I can explain every- thing."

But Phoebe ignored him. She walked away with her father behind her.

"Phoebe!"Kentsaid, buthisownfatherrestrained him. "Kent, let her rest. This might be painful for her, but just imagine how she must feel. Just imagine."

Kent, feeling hopeless, watched as Phoebe and her father exited the memorial park. He waited for her to turn around and look at him, but she never did.

"Phoebe's leaving . . ."

Jhone had called Kent with this news. He could hear the tears in her voice as she announced the news. "What?" He had tried to sleep the night before, but whenever he closed his eyes, he saw Phoebe leaving and never looking back.

"She said—she said she's going to New Hampshire . . . to get a divorce."

Jhone was still in the hospital, trying to piece together the story and fixing all the loose ends of Phoebe's confinement when Harley arrived.
