KANG SEUNGYOON woke up because of the sun was shining on his face painfully brightly. with a loud sigh he sat up in his bed and blinked a few times.
from the huge window next to his bed, he could look all over the lake if he wanted to. but usually he just complained about how it was impossible to cover up that window, so he often woke up way earlier than he would have to.
then again seungyoon wasn't a person, who needed a lot of sleep. eventually he got up and sat in front of his desk in order to review the school subjects he'd have that day.
everyone suspected him to be just smart, but the secret behind his good marks was neither money nor a high iq, it was simply hard work.
not that he really cared what people thought, though.
after half an hour he sneaked downstairs and made a breakfast for himself out of whatever he found in the fridge. his parents had already left the house and his older brother didn't live at home anymore.
a little later he got dressed in his school uniform and walked down the stairs of the small apartment building. even though it might've not seemed like it on the outside, this was where the wealthy people of this town lived: the apartments had two floors and an enourmous number of rooms and the apartment buildings were taken care of by, well the not so wealthy population of the town.
especially when compared to seunghoon's house seungyoon lived in great luxury; their building had a central heating system, while in winter seunghoon's grandmother would have to make fire in the chimney.
yoon was aware of their differences, but he loved his friends regardless of their social class, no matter how often his parents told him not to. eventually he shrugged off all the thoughts of his cold and abandoned home and turned to walk to school.
out of the four friends he was the one, who lived closest to the school and he could easily walk there. once he arrived at the classroom, he found jinwoo already there.
the fluffy haired boy was hovered over his text book, while stealing flushed glanzes over to the new student. yoon would have to lie, if he said that he wasn't amused by the sight. most of his friends were usually always crushing on someone, but jinwoo wasn't one of the most, so it was quite rare to see.
"hi jinu, are you studying hard?" he smirked at his friend and sat on his usual chair.
"since you're a studying genius, don't say this to me or i'll feel bad." mumbled jinwoo and slapped yoon's arm.
"don't slap your younger brother, though." laughed seungyoon, when the teacher entered the room.
during the lesson he couldn't help but observe jinwoo and the new guy, he was just genuinely interested in his friend's gossip. for his own part... there wasn't really something going on in his life. to seungyoon studying, soccer and hanging out with his friends was already a lot to manage.
basically that's what he did for the day until the afternoon. together with seunghoon and jinwoo, he sat on the grass of the soccer field during the short break in between school and practice.
they sat in silence and sipped on their canned drinks, when seungyoon's ears caught a shred of a conversation. a little farther he spotted two sophomore boys and tried to listen to their conversation more closely.
"seunghoon is such a poor sucker, why would yoon even hang out with him."
"i know right... and look at this dumb kid jinwoo... thinks he's important, just because his parents own the diner."
so here's the thing: seungyoon was well aware that he was popular among the students (and even the teachers) and that there were a lot of false people, who wanted to get his attention for whatever reasons. so he also knew that he could get away with almost everything.
there was no sense in trying to restrain his anger about how the two boys talked about his friends.
angrily he threw his half empty can at them. "you better don't fuck with your seniors, especially if it's me!" he yelled, but at the same time he felt how someone held him back; it was jinwoo. "calm down yoon, they're not worth it."
seungyoon urged to say but you guys are; instead he mumbled sorry and watched the two go off to the bathrooms, to clean their stained cloths.
he knew his friends would disapprove if he started the eternal discussion about society in their town again, because they just wanted to live and ignore it. that didn't change the fact that he thought about it anyway. maybe one day they would understand it...
the practice went by as the usual; actually seungyoon was more talented than seunghoon, thus the coach and his parents forced him from one extra practice to another.
but he'd never be able to play the sport with the same passion as seunghoon, so the latter was actually better than him on the field, which everyone usually neglected.
it made seungyoon sad and angry at the same time, but he had no place where he could put his emotions.
like the other day he walked a part of his way home together with seunghoon and then turned to the other direction. at home he studied for another one and a half hours until he collapsed with his back on the bed.
the sun was going down over the lake in the most astonishing colors, but yoon couldn't appreciate beauty. deep down he felt cold and empty, just like his home, and a wave of the feeling rushed over him.
ever since the only way to escape it had been to study harder and go faster.
in order to do so, he decided to buy an energy drinl at the small super market and got up from the bed, despite his aching body.
after what seemed like an eternity, seungyoon reached the store and what he saw made him forget everything for a second.
