THE SMALL TOWN was so far on the country side, that it took over an hour to get there once you turned off the highway. it assimilated into a more or less spectacular scenery on a hill. by the foot of the hill was a lake, while close by you could guess the outlines of the mountains.

apparently the town was small enough for the people to know each other, but big enough to have it's own highschool. besides that, there was a sportsfield, a super market and a small diner, which had been owned by the same family since ever. due to it's small number of inhabitants it was hard to do anything without being watched by at least one person.

besides it's outer unity, there was a crack within the society of the town. down by the lake was where the rich people lived and the rich people usually didn't go up the hill for one reason: because that's where the poor lived. meanwhile latter had to go downtown, because that's where the people, who weren't farmers worked and their kids went to school.

within that society there was a group of friends, who really didn't care about the elder's opinions about rich and poor. kang seungyoon, kim jinwoo, nam taehyun and lee seunghoon had known each other for almost all their lives, despite their social background.

the oldest, kim jinwoo, lived on the hill and his parents owned the small diner. his parents had to work all day and night and jinwoo was used to helping them whenever he could since he was a kid. but their diner was also the most popular meeting point for everyone and there wasn't a single person in the town, who didn't know the family kim. 

meanwhile kang seungyoon lived near the lake and was the most popular member of the high school's football team. his intelligence and marks were outstanding, especially in their town, but also came with a price. 

jinwoo's best friend lee seunghoon lived with his grandmother on the upper side of the town. apparently his parents worked in busan, barely making enough money to support themselves and their son. but despite all that, seunghoon worshipped his grandmother, not regretting, that he rather chose living with her for a second.

the youngest and also most fragile one, nam taehyun, also lived on the lower side close to seungyoon and besides not being in financial trouble his life was just as complicated as the others'. on the outside he might've seemed like the perfect, ambitious future musician, but his dream also led to constant arguments with his parents and low marks.

regardless all their struggels the friends always had their backs, not minding anyones' business; because their friendship mattered more than everything else in the world.

after spending every single day of the holidays together, they gathered on the football field on top of the hill, far above the town on the last evening before school. taehyun had leaned back to enjoy the last sunrays on his face, while seungyoon lied in the grass on his back. the other two boys sat right next to them, eyeing the sad and sticky remains of the ice cream package they had shared earlier.

as seungyoon cleared his throat in order to speak up, he immediatly was interrupted by seunghoon who lightly slapped his friend's stomach. "save up your epic words, you say them every single year."

"whatever." he chuckled at his friend's reaction, only to earn another glare from the latter. "don't even get started with your hyena laugh!"

"don't be so harsh on yoonie hyung!" taehyun joined their fight and leaned over to hug yoonie hyung, who shoved him away. "and you don't be so touchy!"

suddenly jinwoo, who had watched the whole conversation in silence, bursted out in laughter. "why are you like this?" he barely managed to get that question out in between his laughing. the others just stared at him for a while, until they joined in.

still there was a hint of sadness mixed into their mood, since this would be the last time they hung out before a school year together like this. one year ahead they'd all be going their own ways and it scared them.
