I looked at the school doors suddenly feeling anxious. I push the door open and walk inside, hugging my notebook tighter. I head to the office and walk to the lady sitting at a desk. "Are you new here"? she asks. My throat feels dry so I just nod my head. "Okay well here are your classes and here" she slips me a small piece of paper "is your locker number and combination." I smile and force out the words "thank you" probably too quietly for her to hear. As soon as I step out the door I let out a deep breath. "No need to feel afraid" I tell myself,"its going to be okay." I walk through the hallway until I find my locker. "Great a bottom locker" I think in my head," now I'm gonna have to ask people to move over." I get my books and head to my classroom the teacher is calling roll call. "Jason?" "here!" "Sheniquwha?" "Here!" "Elli?" I froze. My name. I sat there staring at my desk. Anxiety slowly setting in. "Elli where are you?" the teacher asks. I raise my hand still looking down at my desk. "Honey, next time say 'here' when we do roll call okay?" I just look down at my desk. I want to scream YES! as loud as I can but I can't, I'm frozen. The teacher moves on to the next name and I feel my hand starting to shake. A tear runs down my cheek and the boy sitting next to me asks " are you okay?". I want to say yes, or no actually. But instead I just pull my legs to my face and cry into my knees. I feel a hand on my back and the teachers voice "it's okay come with me". she helps me up and my hands cover my face instantly. And I walk out of the classroom with the teachers hand on my back.
