ophelia was growing tired of trying to oppress her obvious feelings for jake. she couldn't deny that she was attracted to him.

she played down how much the boy meant to her, but ophelia didn't know where she would be if jake hadn't swooped in and saved her, as cliche as it sounds.

jake was in the same boat. ophelia became his world. he cared about her so deeply and hated seeing her upset or hurt.

his brothers and friends had been nonstop teasing him about it, but they could see that he really did care for the girl.

they often spent days together, sometimes doing nothing. being in each others presence was enough for them.

ophelia woke up from the sound sleep. she looked over at the clock on her nightstand and it read 1:37pm. she rarely ever slept this late.

she got ready quickly, and silently. she would never be used to the empty house. how the floor boards creaked so loud, and her voice echoed off the walls.

she felt lonely.

jake had hardly slept that night. his thoughts were consumed by the broken girl he met at a bar.

he couldn't stop thinking about her using. the thought of her doing that made him sick, and he hated to think about it.

he wanted to be her saving grace. her shoulder to cry on.

his brothers, who loved ophelia, were wary because of how attached jake was to the beautiful girl.

it had only been several weeks, but they clicked instantly. ophelia and jake both knew they played significant roles in each others lives.

it was 4:23pm when sam kiszka heard a knock on his door. he opened it, and was happy to see ophelia standing there.

"hi sam," she smiled.

"hey ophelia. come in," he stepped to the side to let her in.

"jake is in his room," sam looked to the top of the stairs.

ophelia smiled. "thanks sam. it was good to see you."

"yeah, you too ophelia."

she snuck up the stairs quietly, and once she reached the top floor, she heard a guitar being played.

she stood in his doorway, admiring him in all his glory. the way he scrunched his face when he played, the way his hair moved when he moved, how intense he played.

ophelia melted.

she was a little bit startled when jake made direct eye contact with her, snapping her out of this trance.

she laughed. "i didn't want to interrupt." she made her way to his bed, and took a seat on the edge beside him.

"it's ok. i'm glad you're here." he smiled at her.

"yeah," she returned the smile. "i am too."

"did you write that?"

"the song? yeah, me and josh kind of came up with it."

she smiled. "it's beautiful."

you could cut the tension with a knife, the two of them had their eyes locked on each other, not moving, not talking.

jake broke the silence. "you look really beautiful."

ophelia went red in the cheeks. "i'm not beautiful." she looked away from jake.

"ophelia, you're the most beautiful thing i have ever laid eyes on." he placed his hand under her chin, guiding her eyes back to his.

her eyes became glassy, and her lip trembled.

"why are you crying? did i say something wrong?" jake became flustered.

ophelia shook her head. "no, of course not." she wiped the tears that fell from her eyes. "no one has ever said that to me before."

"you deserve the world and more, and what happened to you isn't fair."

jake was as equally surprised as ophelia when he felt her lips on his.
