My eyes were heavy, my cheeks were very puffy. I woke up and it was dark, silent and the only light source coming in my quiet room was the moon. Oh, dear moon, how mighty do you look. You, of all, can see what happens at night when everyone is asleep. You, of all, who can hold evidence of everything but cannot talk about it.
In one of the letters I had in the box, which was attached to the tape, said 'whenever you feel alone, look at the moon and I will be there.' I wonder, what would the moon be like if she was a real person. I sat by my window and I stared up to it. I guess it was around 3 in the morning because it was pitch black but illuminated by the mighty, clear rays of the moon.
The streets looked desolated. The trees danced in the soft, cold breeze of the night. The side walk looked empty. At this point, I feel so lonely. I wrapped my hands around me to give myself a hug.
After a while, I went to look for my phone, in the darkness. I didn't bother to turn on the lights, the light of the moon was clear enough. My phone laid face down on the floor by my bed. It must have gone low battery since I was playing music while I was grieving. I live in a harmful household. How I wish that death could have taken away my father instead of my mother. Everything would be different.
I saw my box on the floor, the thought of the tape came into my mind. My heart began to race. I hope father didn't take away the tape. Dear God, please don't let father take it away from me. I went to check on the VHS player and there it was, my mother's tape. A slight glimpse of joy resonated in my shattered heart. This is the only thing which brings me hope, always on a sad day like today. I started packing the player and the tape when I stumbled across a small jewelry box.
I open the box and I found a golden necklace that had the words 'Josephine'. This necklace belongs to my mother. I tried it on, and went to the mirror. I took a photo of my mother along with me. I fixed my wavy hair and cleared my eyes. My eyes were very swollen. I look at the mirror, and I looked at the photo of my mother. We look alike. I was like a vivid image of her in real life. Tears fell once again as my mind played tricks on me telling me that I have my mother right in front of me.
I just smiled and decided to always wear this chain. It is going to be something in which will bring me hope after a hard or troubling day. Mother will always be by my side. I plugged my phone to the power so that it is fully charged. Tomorrow is a next day, I need to be rest for the extra class the math teacher assigned to us. I closed my eyes and rested.

'Without mathematics there's nothing you can do. Everything around you are mathematics. Everything around you are numbers.' That is always something my math teacher, Mr. Sanchez, would always say as a 'form of motivation'. Today was Saturday, I have classes for math. Who even takes classes on a Saturday! Saturday's is just a day to relax, Netflix, not worry about SCHOOL especially MATH!
I find math to be a senseless. Why can't Y find its own solution for its X. I hate waking up early on the weekends. I should be waking up late. Having a brunch instead of breakfast. Anyway, let me stop complaining before I continue ruining this beautiful day. Thankfully it is only two hours of math. It is still a lot but two hours will go by fast, hopefully.
I went downstairs to prepare breakfast because I am basically the only one up apart from my mother and father who goes for work today. My little brother is sleeping, my two other sisters aren't with us. One is married and the other is off to study at Michigan. I made my way to the kitchen and I saw that my mother was home. How odd? She should be on her way at work right now. It's 6:45.
"Mom? What are you doing here? Aren't you suppose to be on your way to work right now?" I asked confusedly.
"Well, I should but the car broke down. So, I have to miss the day and I will be fired. So, no more late-night binge watch for me." She paused and couldn't hold in the laughter after seeing my surprised face. "I kidding you." She laughed. "My boss decided to give us all the day off since the past week we all worked 10 hours every day. With our impressive work, he gave us a reward. That's why I am here." She responded.
"Well that is great! You seriously had me with the fired thing. I was binge watching a interesting series right now and I thought I had to say good-bye to it!" I faked a cry.
My mother laughed. "Anyway, why are you up so early?" She questioned.
"Today Mr. Sanchez wants to give us one of his 'fun' classes." I said sarcastically as I sat at one of the seats by the counter.
"Well, you do need the classes because you are terrible at math." She said seriously. "Quick tell me what is 12 multiplied by 12."
"Wow mom! Of course I know my multiplication table, I am not six you know!" I responded with annoyance.
"Well tell me the answer." Mom looked at me with pressuring eyes.
"144!" I rolled my eyes. She laughed.
"So, what do you want for breakfast?"
"Just a sunny side up egg." I responded. She went on the fridge to look for eggs.
"Will Adley come over to pick you up or will you go by taxi?"
"Adley will pick me up." As I said that, I heard Adley pulling up on the drive way. "Speaking of the devil."
He rang the doorbell. I went to open the door for him. I told him to come in the kitchen where my mom was preparing breakfast.
"Have you had breakfast Adley?" My mom asked him
"Yes Mrs. Collin. My mother made me waffles." Adley responded as he gestured that he was full.
"How is your mother and father?" My mom asked. Adley's parents are like part of the family.
"They are doing alright. I overheard them the other day and I guess they want to prepare dinner for you guys so that you can come over and visit."
"That sounds great! Gives me enough time to find the perfect wine bottle. I always tell Atlas to come talk to me for wine selection whenever he will have a date. I know some good bottles." My mother felt proud.
"Well Mrs. Collin speaking on that topic. Atlas here has found himself a girlfriend already." I punched him in the shoulder. He laughed.
"Is that so?" My mom stared at me with amazement with her eyes. "How come you haven't told me!"
"She is not my girlfriend; I just went to apologize to her and we became friends right after." I tried saving my skin.
"Well girlfriend or not. I am proud that my son has hopes for a girlfriend." She squeezed my cheeks. I hated it!
I finished my breakfast and went off to brush me teeth. I said my good-byes to my mom and we went off to school.
In math class I noticed Cassie, she didn't make much eye contact to anyone. What's wrong with her? Math class went by, boring as per usual. Everyone left the class and Cassie was the last one to come out. I stayed behind for a while, I told Adley to wait for me. I followed her to her locker, she seemed to not notice me. I guess she was deep into her thoughts.
She opened her lockers and took out books. I taped her on her shoulder. She turned around to look at me. She looked tired and exhausted. Her eyes were swollen as if she had been crying last night.
"Are you okay?" I asked her.
No words were said. She dropped her books on the floor and hugged me tightly. I knew then that no words are need right now just a tight hug. I heard her crying.
"Everything will be alright Cassie. I am here. I will protect you."
She hugged me tightly. I didn't wanted to let her go.
A special bond form with them. They are meant to be. What do you say?
Atlas never let her go!
