"He left her lonely with a diamond mind and those ocean eyes"

~ Brielle Jefferies ~

"Sissy wake up" I felt someone shaking me. I looked up and saw my little brother smiling at me.

"I'm up big head" I said as I leaned over and gave him a hug and a big wet kiss on the cheek.

"Ewww get off of me" he said laughing before running out of the room.

I laughed and shook my head. That boy is a mess I thought. I got up and went to do my hygiene. Once I was finished, I dried off and got ready for school.

~ 1 hour later ~

I grabbed my bookbag then walked downstairs. When I reached the bottom step, I saw my mom sitting on a man's lap. I have never seen him around here before. He looked like he was in his early 20's, but my question is why was he here? The man was giving me bad vibes as he eyed my body up and down which made me scrunch up my face. I just turned my head and began walking in the living room to wait on my brother until my mom decided to open her mouth.

"So you can't say good morning now?"

"Good morning mother" I said rolling my eyes.

"I hate disrespectful ass kids. I should've killed your ass when I had the fucking chance" she spat.

Well that one hurt I thought as I just sat there looking stupid.

"Maybe you should've, I wouldn't have to live this miserable ass life" I mumbled tearing up a little.

"Bitch what did you just say" she questioned as she stood up and got in my face.

"Nothing" I whispered.

I felt a stinging sensation in my right cheek. Did she just slap me? What did I even do to deserve that, as more and more questions ran through my head. I immediately held my cheek as tears welled up in my eyes.

"You stupid bitch! What did I tell you the last time I beat your ass huh?" She said staring into my eyes.

I avoided her stare and looked over her shoulder to the man that she was sitting on and he just chuckled. I just shook my head. I saw my little brother with a terrified look on his face, so I grabbed his hand and headed for the door.

Before I put my hand on the knob, my mom said, "Don't come back either." I just walked out because I know she didn't mean it. We argued every morning, which led to me going to school with a slap or punch in the face.

I can't tell you how many times I've had to text Delilah to bring her mom's makeup, so I can put it on my face. Hopefully, I wouldn't have to put none on today since it was just a slap to the face.

Delilah knows everything that goes on in my life and she wants to help, but I push her away. I will never be able to get away from my mom no matter how hard I try because she always find away to get to me, so for the last few months, I have kept most things to myself except the abuse part since that's pretty obvious.

I took my brothers hand as we began walking to his school. I zipped my jacket up a little more and pulled my brother's hat over his ears because it was pretty cold in Minnesota in the winter and I didn't need him to get sick.

We walked up to the front of his school and I was greeted by his teacher, Mrs. Sarratt. She was such a pretty lady with a big heart. She knew what was going on at home so she would volunteer to keep my little brother until I get home from work.

"Hey Mrs. Sarratt" I said as I gave her a hug.

She leaned in and hugged me back. "Hey sweetie, how are you?"

"I'm good and you?" I said with a slight smile.

"I'm doing good. Is everything going good at home?" She questioned as a look of worry crossed her face.

I decided that it would be best to lie so she wouldn't be worried all day. "Yes, everything is going good. Thanks for asking, but I have to get going. Bye Braydin, I love you."

"I love you too sissy, bye!" He said excitedly. I laughed before waving at them and walking down to the bus stop.
