Xander and Alexis drove in a silence that seemed like it had no emotion to it. The truth was they were both nervous about what was to come once they made their arrival to their final destination. Would the reunion be filled with anger, silence, or happiness. To Xander anything was better than the silence that was sure to follow. Outside the bitter cold swirled around them, throwing fat flakes at them steadily and heavily. It was only fifteen degrees out, Alexis bundled up with a scarf pulled around her nose. Xander had a thick jacket over his grey long sleeve. He wasn't too stunned about the cold. He was used to it. Xander reached for his coffee in a thermos and took a big drink of the bitter tasting substance. He preferred it with a little sugar but he was out when he made the batch this morning at Ryan's house. She allowed him to live there so he could tend to the shop. He slept on the couch in the living room to a movie each night of his visit.
Alexis twiddled her thumbs, staring at her colored nails as she thought about what was to come. She didn't want to be hated but she knew she did the right thing otherwise she would have flowers to replace monthly. It was for the best... she thought as she tried to convince herself as best as she could but she wasn't convincing herself anymore. Xander turned to look at Alexis as he sat at the red light, Alexis turning to him. They both had pain in their expressions, both blaming themselves but that was normal when put in such a situation as this. Xander turned back to the road as the light turned green. Alexis twirled her wedding ring on her finger as she thought to herself. She thought of what was to come and she didn't know Xander was doing the same. They both were thinking of what was going to happen. Xander turned into a place that looked vaugly of Alexis and Ryan's middle school. Xander parked near the front and turned the car off, looking to Alexis.
"Ready?" he asked.
Alexis could see through the front doors into the cafateria where Ryan sat with a group of people around her. She watched as her friend from sixth grade hugged people left and right. Some were crying. Some wouldn't let go. Her friend was popular it seemed. Ryan's therapist stood in the front between the two sets of doors, waving to them where boxes and other personal items next to her.
Alexis looked at Xander before stating, "It's now or never."
With that they exited the car.
