"Look-" he began.
"Out!"
"Kae-"
"Do not call me that. That is not my name." she barked as her eyes began to cloud with tears. Angry tears.
His brown eyes softened. His shoulders slumped and he looked at her. His dark skin seemed sickly and he clenched a cane. Outside people were staring as they past. Xander walked in the door and his eyebrows furrowed as he waited for something to happen that would allow him to figure out his plan of action. "But-"
"I don't want to hear any of your fucking excuses anymore. Out!" she pointed to the door and wiped the tears from her face.
"You should leave..." Xander pipped up for the first time since he entered.
"You look beautiful..." the man sighed before turning and made his way slowly out of the store, the bells jinggling as he left.
Ryan sat back down and cried into her hands, quivering as she sobbed loudly. Xander placed the food down before he walked around the counter and hugged her in his arms. She leaned against him and cried into his chest. "I hate him..." she mumbled. "I hate him..." she cried into his black shirt. Xander picked her up and walked to the back where he grabbed her keys from the wall before making a sign that said: We'll be back in 20 minutes. Personal emergancy.
He taped it to the door and flipped the sign to closed before exiting and locking the store behind him. He walked to her front door and unlocked it before walking in and carrying her to her room, laying her down and pulling her shoes off. Xander pulled off his own shoes before laying next to her, holding her close. She felt as if this heavy cloud had fallen over her. It was this emptiness in her chest where she felt as if she needed a personal moment with her blade so she could melt all the problems around her in a few deep slices. That's all she wanted to do. Her breathing slowed as she took comfort in Xander's arms. He was a great friend and she wished that they could be more but he wouldn't be happy.
Xander rubbed her back as he wondered who was that and why he got that reaction from her. He had known her since she was 17 and not in the 10 years he's known her he's only seen her upset twice before. Once was when she found out her girlfriend of 3 years broke up with her and when Shawn broke up with her a few years back. She was good at containing her emotions to him it seemed. It tended to scare him and he knew that there was something under her clothes that would explain the scars on her face, and the fact that she was once a swimmer in high school and got a scholarship but turned down the full ride and hasn't swam since. He knew not to ask, desciding that everyone has their secrets. So he lets her have her's and he has his.
Ryan looked up at him and he looked down at her. They shared a silent exchange for several minutes, their eyes never leaving the others. They were hooked on the silence. Suddenly Ryan broke the silence. "Thank you," she muttered before her gaze drifted down to his chest.
"No problem. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you."
"Well... That was my dad..."
"Really?" he was stunned. He remembered her saying she removed contact from him and her mom when she was 18.
"Yes..."
"You don't have to tell me now or ever if you like. I don't want to push you."
"Thank you," she looked up at him, placing her hand on his face. "I wish I could kiss you and have you kiss me back and I could melt away but you're gay and I'm not a guy."
Xander looked into her eyes, holding his hand over hers. "I'm sorry... I wish things would be different for you."
Ryan got up. She sat on the edge of the bed with her converse in her hands as she stared at the floor. Xander placed a hand on her leg after he moved next to her, watching her. "I love you," he muttered.
