LAST CHAPTER -
"I kissed Del." I heard Leo say when I was about to open the door. Carefully, I took my hand off the handle and listened to the rest of their conversation.
.......................................................
There was an awkward silence. "Right."
"Why do I get the feeling you're unhappy about that?"
"I'm not!" Charlie shouted. Hastily, I push the door open to interrupt their argument before it could get too heated.
"What time is it?" I pretended not to have heard what they said.
"Half twelve." Leo told me.
"Oh, we need to get ready soon." We all stood there, a little awkwardly.
Okay, very awkwardly. I reached for my phone and scroll through Instagram.
Leo does the same, but Charlie goes downstairs. Me and Leo make small talk, but most of the time is spent on our phones.
Charlie comes back after about ten minutes. A few minutes later, Victoria calls me down too.
"Charlie told me about you and Leo. I think he's upset. I don't mind you and Leo together, in fact, I like you two together, but please just include Charlie too." Victoria asked. My mouth opened in shock. Why had Charlie told Victoria? That was a childish thing to do. I nodded at her, and ran back upstairs. I needed to tell Leo what just happened, but I had to wait until we had a free moment.
At one, we had to get ready to go to Starbucks with the Overload boys. I took my clothes to the bathroom to get dressed. I wore a lilac crop-top, blue tie-dye denim shorts, an oversized cardigan and my lilac converse. Before going back into Leo's room, I applied mascara, a bit of eyeliner and some pale lipgloss.
Leo was now wearing a SnapBack, but hadn't changed clothes. He looked nice. Charlie hadn't changed at all. "You gonna change?" Leo asked him.
"Yeah." His reply was simple, still looking away and not making eye contact.
Leo shifted his weight uncomfortably. "S'pose we better head downstairs?" He suggested.
He took my hand and pulled me out the door. "Find out what's wrong with Charlie, please." Leo whispered into my ear. I nodded and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I have a feeling it's to do with the, uh, earlier event. I heard you telling him. He said to your mum about it, that's why she called me downstairs." He rolled his eyes.
"I wonder if my mum'll say anything to me about the 'earlier event'." Leo smirked as he uses my words.
"It was embarrassing. I'm glad she didn't say anything bad though, like, call me a bitch or something."
He smiled, tilting his head to one side. "She wouldn't, she told me that she likes you. But who wouldn't?" Leo teased me, wiggling his eyebrows. He kissed me lightly on the lips. "I don't like you. I love you."
"I love you too. But I won't if you keep stealing my lip gloss." I use the sleeve of my cardigan to wipe it from his lips.
He looks disgusted when I mention the lip gloss. He starts to talk after I have cleared it off.
"No. This isn't like we used to say it. This time I mean 'I love you'." Leo looked away as he cheeks turned rosy.
"Who says I didn't mean that too?" I asked. His eyes lit up.
I would have loved to hear his reply, but Charlie came out from the bedroom.
"Thought you were getting changed?" I said.
"Didn't want to."
We went downstairs. Charlie went straight into the kitchen and started to talk to Victoria, but this time I decided to give him some privacy, seeing I've either listened to or been told about his past two conversations. "You guys getting a lift with me, or are you getting the bus?" Joey asked, sitting on the stairs to pull on his shoes.
"Yeah, we'll come with you." Leo shrugged.
We left the house, me chatting with Leo and Joey talking to Charlie.
Leo sat up front, so I was left in the back with Charlie. We all chatted, apart from Charlie. The conversation was going well, until Joey brought up the 'earlier events'.
"Mum told me about you and Del, Leo. Bet your jealous, Charlie, pretty girl like Del with your mate." Joey joked, looking in the mirror at Charlie.
Charlie glared at Leo. Before, he would have just looked out the window and stayed silent. Not this time.
