I've never liked walking home alone, especially at night. I don't think anyone ever has, actually. Not just girls and women, everyone has a fear of the worst. At least living in the city is much safer then living in a small, remote town, but it's still terrifying.
You know, the thought of someone walking up behind you when it's dark and there's no cars in sight, reaching their arm around your neck, covering your mouth. The thought that anyone could really do anything to you, and likely no one will know until it's probably too late.
Luckily for me, I was walking alongside a busy street with streetlamps every few yards, so the chances of someone kidnapping or killing me without anyone noticing was very slim.
Plus, the headlights of the speeding cars lit up the street so much that it almost felt like day.
Okay, well maybe it wasn't THAT bright, but it was still really bright!
Anyway, I used the time I had while walking home to take a look around and examine my surroundings. As I was approaching an apartment complex, I noticed that only one light was on in the entire building. Remember that.
The cool air of 12:32 am was what encouraged me to pick up the pace. Well, that and the- never mind. I'm getting ahead of myself. Anyway, I started walking faster. And then I ran. For whatever reason, walking wasn't fast enough, and I ran. Looking back, I'm glad I did.
I made it back to my flat and began walking the steps up to my floor. I never trusted the elevator at this time of the night. Once reaching the seventh floor, I stuck my hand in my sweatshirt pocket and pulled out my keys. I unlocked the door and walked in quietly, assuming my flatmate was already sleeping. She wasn't, but that's not really important.
I undressed and put on some sleepwear. I set my phone on the charger and turned off my bedside lamp. I collapsed onto my bed and took a nice long nap, knowing I would have to get up in 6 hours.
