Kwite held his phone up to his ear tighter as the dial tones played for the 5th time. He knew they wouldnt answer, but hope is a powerful thing.

Then suddenly, the voice mail played.

"Hello its-" Kwite pressed the end call button and slammed down the phone onto the bed. He was furious. He even waited until nightfall to call his parents to see if they would pick up, with timezones and all, he really thought that this would work. Looks like hes wrong once again.

You would have thought that parents would have the common decency to pick up phone calls from their children, to check up on them every once in awhile, and to help them grow.

"I love mummy and daddy issues..." Kwite scoffed as he glared at his feet that dangled over the side of the bed. He bit his lip as he thought about his friends, thinking about they always provided comfort and told him that he could text or call them any time. Kwite hesitantly reached over to his phone and turned it on, unlocked the phone and swiping his homescreens to get to where his discord app was stored. As he was about to press on the app, his phone screen lit up with an incoming call. The callers contact read 'Mum'...

Oh.

Kwites heart skipped a beat as he swiped the green call button and put his phone up to his ear and waited for a response.

"Kwite?  I saw that you tried to call my phone a couple of times,  what do you need? " Kwites mother spoke with a hint of annoyance. Kwite gulped as he began to thinkof how to word out his situation.

"Dont freak out,  but, um... " Kwite dug his nails into his free hand,  grounding himself. "The house,  well,  the house is gone...  and everything in it... " Kwite trailed off at the end, curling himself up in a ball on the bed as he awaited his mothers response.

The line was silent for a few seconds before his mother finally spoke.

"The house what?" She sounded confused and not mad, Kwite sighed in relief.

"The house is gone, its ashes now"

"Huh..."

Kwite waited for a response before his mother spoke again.

"Who are you staying with?"

"Um... a lady from across the street, she said i could stay here as long as i need"

"Hm"

Kwite gulped, his mother never acted like this. then again, his mother probably hasnt had the thought of her house being burned down while her son was the only one living in it.

"Pack everything you got left, youre going to japan"

"im sorry... WHAT"
