Jade was the first one to wake up that morning. She smiled as the memories of last night flooded in.
Ariana had talked on and on about what kulture had done to her all her life. The four year old sweetheart was a real nuisance. The funniest was how she stole her bra and designed the name of her crush.
Ariana had said that she had written the words 'josh' in a red marker and had drawn a silly drawing of a girl and a boy holding hands.Last night, they also felt dirty so they had taken a dip in the pool naked for some seconds while their clothes were hung on the rock.
Jade was the one that brought up the idea. She reached for her backpack and realised that what they were going to eat today would be their last meal.
The last sausage roll stared back at her. Some minutes later Ariana woke up.
"Good morning"
She said as she struggled to sit up."Morning. How was your night?"
They both burst into laughter as memories of last night resurfaced."It was wonderful. God when last did I sleep soundly without my sedatives? Thanks jade"
Jade smiled proudly at her comment.
"I'm glad I helped"They both rinsed their mouth before eating their last meal.
"I just hoped this isn't our last meal, like forever"
Jade joked."Oh my God jade, please don't say that. I have to get out of here alive, and enjoy my life some more. Breath some fresh air and get kulture for my bra. That was my favourite"
Laughter followed.
"Jade I'm hearin something."They both kept quiet. The sound of an engine could be heard afar.
The ray of hope shone in their eyes as they looked at each other. It wasn't going to be their last meal after all.
Jade was the first to spring up and start screaming for help.
Ariana stood up and picked out the whistle that was in her pocket.
"Ever watched the titanic?"
She boasted as she remembered a scene. She took the whistle to her mouth and blew.
Soon the speed boat was coming towards them. They were safe, Ariana still had time to see her family and let them know how much she loved them.
The rescue team gave them blankets and some food as they continued the search.
Jade had thought her a lot, keeping things locked up in the mind can do more harm than good. She was going to be more open and friendly. Going to start seeing the good in people.
She turned towards her friend that sat beside her, her first friend in years.
Just looking at her, she knew that they had started a wonderful friendship.Hazel was wonderful, but she was gone. Not coming back. She had learned to cherish what she had now, and not sulk about the past.
As she breathed the fresh air, she knew her life would not remain the same again; it was going to be better
