I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER OR ANY OF THE CHARACTERS IN THAT SERIES BECAUSE THEY BELONG TO JOANNE KATHLEEN (J.K.) ROWLING!

Chapter One

Hermione smiled as she gave the book to the little child. The blonde girl smiled up at her and the mother smiled at Hermione as well. They were in the middle of the crowded bookshop called Flourish And Blotts in Diagon Alley. Hermione was helping a shy customer who couldn’t seem to find the book that she needed for school.

"Thank you for helping us find it. I was beginning to think that they were sold out," the mother said placing a hand on her twelve year old daughter’s shoulder.

"We always order triple of the school books when the time comes around. I think that we will have to order more soon though. It seems that we’ve had more students buying then we expected," Hermione giggled.

Hermione looked down at the small, shy girl. The little girl giggled and put her face in her mother’s legs. Hermione smiled and kneeled down to the girl. The mother smiled down at the two as well. The little girl slowly turned her eyes to look at Hermione.

"Is this your first year at Hogwarts?" Hermione asked her.

The little girl nodded shyly, but enthusiastically at the same time.

"You’ll have so much fun. I loved it. I got out of Hogwarts last year," Hermione told the girl. "It’s going to be one of the best experiences of your life."

"Really?" the little girl asked.

"Yeah. Not matter what House you are in, you’re going to love Hogwarts," Hermione told her.

"Daddy thinks that I might be in Hufflepuff, but mum thinks that I will be in Ravenclaw," the little girl said.

"She’s been pretty scared to go. I had to drag her out of the house to bring her here to get her supplies," the mother told Hermione.

Hermione looked back down at the little girl.

"I was scared going there too, but you’ll feel right at home your first night in. You’ll make so many new friends," Hermione comforted the little girl. "And make friends with the professors. When you get there, there will be this really big man. His name is Hagrid. Tell him that I said hello and that you are Hermione Granger’s friend."

The little girl smiled and Hermione stood up as the mother and daughter thanked them before leaving the crowded store. Hermione had to smiled to herself as well. She remembered coming in here with her parents when she was eleven. None of them had a clue at what they were doing, but a person who worked here helped them and instructed them to go where they needed to get the other things on her list.

A shout took her out of her memory. Hermione turned around to see a boy who looked a couple of years younger than her walk out to meet her. The boy had brown hair and wore square glasses.

"Yes? How can I help you?" Hermione asked him.

"Do you have any copies of The Monster Book Of Monsters?" the boy asked.

"Umm....I’ll have to see. With those books we keep them in a cage for safety precaution. We sometimes have them behind the desk. We have been running short on books lately. Our normal stocks don’t seem to be enough this year. I will go check though," Hermione answered him.

Hermione led the boy through the crowd until they were at the front desk. She saw her co-worker, Sophie, there. She had sweat rolling down from her forehead as she quickly went from one customer to the next. Hermione gave her a small smile.

"Sophie?" she asked.

"One moment please." Sophie begged as she quickly gave one man his change for the books that he bought.

Sophie quickly told the man to wait for a moment while she talked to Hermione. Sophie sighed and put her long, black hair into a ponytail as she asked Hermione, "yes?"

"Do we have any copies of The Monster Book Of Monsters?" Hermione asked him.

"Sorry. A half hour ago, a man bought our last copy. The shipment of new books should be in about four days maximum." Sophie answered before she then opened the drawer on the other side of the desk and handed Hermione a piece of paper with at least eight names on it as well as addresses.

"What’s this?" Hermione asked.

Sophie turned to the boy.

"What we can do is that when we get the shipment, we can personally send the book to you, but you pay for it here. Or, you can come in a couple of days to see if we have them yet," Sophie told him.

Hermione looked at the boy and he said that he would prepay for it. Hermione smiled and left the boy as he was writing down his name and address on the piece of paper. She wasn’t alone for too long though. She helped a man find a book that he was getting for his daughter’s birthday and she helped locate a couple of families where everything in the store could be found.

She was already exhausted. She wondered why Diagon Alley was so full this year, but she then realized that it was the first year after the Battle Of Hogwarts. People weren’t afraid anymore. Things could be at their peace.

But she knew that things had changed since He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s death, things were different. She thought that it was for the good. The example was in her shop already. More students were going to Hogwarts because their parents allowed them. Muggle-borns were going back to Hogwarts because they didn’t have to hide anymore.

The fear that had them in chains were over.

So she wondered why she still didn’t feel satisfied and carefree like everyone else.
