We let go, blushing at each other. I put my hair behind my ear and stepped back. Everyone started to get back to a group at the fire.

"You ready to go?" I looked up at Peter.

"As ready as I'll ever be," he responded.

We started the journey. Everything from scorpions to thirst got in other way but nothing stopped us. Every night we set up camp in a different spot. And every morning we looked in different places. We got to a, rather dark, wood shed. The white paint was chipping and the door was crooked, like it was about to fall off the hinges. The roof looked like it was going to collapse inside itself. I tried to look through the cracks of the walls and the door but couldn't see anything but darkness, but I was almost sure that something or someone was in there, which might be of help. I put down my bag and slowly crept to the door. I looked in one of the bigger cracks, but didn't look like anything was in there. I opened the door, which was very squeaky, and looked inside to see a few boxes. There might be resources in there, I said to myself.

"It's all clear," I said. I went back to dig for a dagger to use for a crowbar and a flashlight. I walked back inside to loot the boxes. I rip the door off the building, as frail as it was, and threw it out of the way. I took my flashlight in my left hand and put it between my cheek and my shoulder holding it up, making my two arms for breaking open the boxes. As soon as I got my knife on one of the boxes, I heard a low but fearing growling coming from the back of the shed. I immediately held my dagger out in front of me with my right hand, putting my flashlight in my left hand. Appeared from behind the boxes were glowing purple eyes, bigger than refrigerator, yet, in a shed. I slowly backed away. Hearing the deep growl gave me goose bumps. I got to the door, opened it, still staring at the creature, and walked out slowly closing it. "Guys, there's something in there," I whispered, tiptoeing towards the group.

"What does it look like?" Simon looked up from his backpack.

"All I saw was it's eyes, they were purple. And it had the deepest growl." There was silence for Simon to think.

"How big was it's eyes?"

"Close to the size of my palm," I responded holding up my hand.

"It could be several different animals but from your description it sounded like a feline of some kind like a tiger."

"Will it hurt me?"

"As long as you approach it softly and gently. It shouldn't attack unless it's attacked," he assured me. I nodded and approached the small building again.

I crept in, slowly. My tensed arm pointed my flashlight where the creature was before expecting to see it there again. I let go of the tension a bit but kept searching. I took my knife again and was about to touch the box when I heard the same growl behind me. Goosebumps. I slowly turned around, but half way, I saw the purple eyes inches away from my face. I felt it's breath on my neck. The air it exhaled was gray, and smoggy. I lefted my flashlight beacon on the boxes.

"I'm not here to hurt you," I said softly. "I'm only here for the boxes and then I'll leave." It backs away a few steps and stares in my direction. I look back at it. It was staring at my hand. I moved my knife in the air and around me. I knelt down and slid the knife across the floor, toward the door. I, now, didn't have anything to open the boxes with. I gently tried to open them. Surprisingly, it worked and what was in there was food. 4 more to go. I went over to the other box and opened it. More food. The next box had a nest and babies. Newly hatched, I would assume since they were so small.

"You're just guarding them, protecting them. You don't want to hurt me, or anyone. You just wanted shelter. I know you think I'm an intruder but I'm not here to hurt you or your little ones. I was only looking for supplies. I'm sorry I disturbed you," I whispered. I looked up at it. It's eyes were softened and it was no longer growling. I took my flashlight off the box and held it up to the creature behind me. The fur was as shiny and vibrant as the sun hitting the water surface and the color of it was a baby blue. The body was shaped like a wild cat and the feet back were like an eagles. Beside it, were wings. The edges of the wings was a purple like it's eyes, it's breath still smoke-like. I was so amazed by this creature, and I had never seen anything like it. The size of it was huge, like a dragon in disguise. I slowly stood. "Your kids look just like you," I said. As soon as I was able to stand, I compared the size of me to the creature. I only came up to it's shoulder. With my flashlight by my face, I held out my hand intending to pet it. I started to growl again, so I stopped moving. "I need your help, my friends are in danger and I don't know where they have been taken, please," I pleaded. It looked at me and I looked at it. As we did, I felt it searching my soul. I came closer to the creature. "The only way we can do this together is if we can trust each other. And we both have things we care about." I step closer. "I wish I had more to give but I know that we can help each other." Closer. "Please," I ask. As I stepped the last time, I was close to the creatures face. The air it exhaled surrounded the palm of my hand. It finally got the courage to make contact and it put its head in my hand rubbing, against it. It's fur felt like silk across my palms. It felt like the comfort of home. The blankets my grandparents gave me, my dogs. I missed it.
