I reach downtown and decide to grab a snack from the gas station. I was going to get coffee, but I decided it would be weird going there without Stacy. I text Mom to let her know I'm grabbing a snack. She doesn't respond. I'm guessing she's in the shower or sleeping. I walk in and grab a Hershey bar, a pack of gum, and some Sprite. My total is $5.67. After I pay, I finish walking home. When I arrive, the door was unlocked. Weird. Dad must've gone to the store. I walk in. "Mom, I home!" Silence. Then, I hear a slight noise. "H-ee-llll-pp." Is someone saying help? "Mom? Where are you?" I scream. I look through the living room and then I spot her lying on the stairs. "Mom, what happened?" I run to her. I help her up, but her body is too weak. "Mom, stay with me okay? I'm calling 911!" I scream. I dial it as fast as I can. They answer. "Hello! Officer, PLEASE help my mom. She has cancer and she's laying on the ground. Please, get here QUICK!" They end the call. A few minutes later, I hear sirens. "Momma, stay with me! Talk to me! What's your favorite color?" "Rrr-eee-dd." "Nice color! What's your favorite number Mom?" She looks at me. "Abby, am I-I-I gon-na di-ee?" I feel tears roll down my cheeks. "No Mom. But if you stay here with me and keep talking, you'll have nothing to worry about." She makes a little cry. There's nothing I can do to stop her from crying. At least she's doing something to help her stay alive. "Abby, if I don't make it, find the r-ee-dd le-ttt-ttt-er under my bed." What? "Mom, what letter?" No response. Her eyes close. "MOM." The police arrive and run up to me. They pick her up and set her into the Hospital Vehicle. I hop into the back next to her. I call Dad. He picks up. "Hey baby" "Dad, not the right time. Something horrible happened with Mom, and you may not ever be able to talk to her again." It's silent. "Dad?" "I'm here." He responds. "Is she...?" "I have no idea." "Which hospital?" He asks. "Ummm, let me check." I can hear him crying through the phone. I get ahold of the doctor across from me. "Sir?" He looks up. "Yes?" "Um, which hospital are we heading to?" "Henry Ford Allegiance Health." "Thanks," I say. He nods. I start to cry. "Ok dad, we are heading to Henry Ford." I cry hard. "Sweetie, just pray. God loves her, but he would never take her life. Know that. I will meet you guys there." I cry again. "I love you." He says. "I love you too Dad."
