Peeta has to stay in this hospital for about two days before he is strong enough to walk on his new artificial leg.
It's been about one day. And I have been with him every hour of the day. Luckily we are off for the weekend so I don't have to worry about school.
And my mom...
Well she doesn't care.
"How are you feeling Peeta?" I whisper from where I lay tucked under his arm.
He moves his head to meet my eyes.
"I'm doing okay... Just one thing is bothering me..." he trails.
"Your wish is my command. " I say.
He mouthed the words,
'Can I kiss you?' I give him a crazy look.
"I don't know can you?" I retort.
He's always hated this.
Even when the teachers said this. He would ask,'can I go to the bathroom?' and they would say, 'I don't know can you?'.
This would tick him off so much. Once he even said, ' Yes I can! and if you don't excuse me right now I'm gonna piss all over your carpet, so again I correct myself.. MAY I GO TO THE BATHROOM!?!?' well... That sure go him the hall pass.
And a detention slip.
He roll his eyes annoyed.
"Just shut up and kiss me. "
I smile as we lean in. But the sweet kiss is short because the door suddenly slams open.
The doctor stands in the doorway and flips through some papers on his clipboard.
I remember when my mother used to bring me to her work.
She was a nurse and a healer at a children's hospital. She loved kids. I bet she would've had more if my 'father' hadn't had died.
She would bring me in and ask me to get the tools for the patients. Just for normal check ups though. I was too young to watch the disgusting surgeries that they did.
I knew only the simple tools like the 'stethoscope'. After work she would always give me a sticker. A golden bird named the Mockingjay sparkling on my shirt pocket as we would walk out hand in hand. The small shoulder sticker with tiny words 'may the odds be ever in your favor'. I didn't really get the term until now.
It was kind of a cruel thing to put on a hand out sticker from a hospital with dying patients in it.
And of course this was all before she became a living shell of her former self.
"I have great news Peeta. Since your strong enough to walk and your healing faster you may be discharged earlier than planned." Meh says not looking from his Board.
I jumped up and down in excitement.
"Finally!" I squeal.
The doctor helps him into his new leg. His crutches to the side balancing in a metal tray for food.
Peeta refused to be in a wheelchair.
'Save it for someone with zero legs'
He had said.
A cruel yet lightening joke for which I rewarded with several kisses.
He steadies on his leg.
He slowly moves the crutches so they are tucked under his arms and he begins to walk.

As he walk out of the hospital and into the parking lot I notice a car.
The black car that crushed my boyfriend.
I know because of the tiny gold paint on the side.
"Wait here." I tell Peeta.
He just watches me as I charge to the car.
The person starts the car and tries to drive but by then I'm clenching on to the door handle and crawling inside.
I look at the face of my new worst nightmare.
In return...
A pair of grey eyes meet mine.
It's him...
