In this fic, the Doctor doesn't forget the events of the 50th anniversary special. By the way, you might see how I felt about that. Was I the only one who was upset about how little they did between David Tennant's Doctor and the mentioning of Bad Wolf. He's just like "Did you just say Bad Wolf. Oh, never mind. It's not important anyways. It's not like it has any relation to the love of my life." Minus a few words or whatever, but seriously that made me mad. I guess I oo you guys this chapter. It's only been a few days since I posted the first one, but I still oo you it. ;)
The Doctor remembered. They were just bits and pieces, but he remembered. He remembered being the Doctor, his tenth regeneration if he could remember accurately. At that time, he was as skinny as a twig, and he had had a thing for pinstriped suits and bananas. He still had cravings for his beloved fruit, but he had given up the suit for a tweed coat, suspenders, and a bow tie. Fezzes became part of his style too along with Stetsons, but that's getting off track.
The Doctor also remembered an older version of himself. Well, technically, the War Doctor was younger than him, but he looked older. Oh, yes, in the past, he had tried to forget this version of himself, but now, as the true memories resurfaced, he remembered that the War Doctor wasn't someone that needed to be shunned, that needed to be forgotten.
In the end, though, they were the ones that would forget while everyone else would remember. The Doctor, in his current (eleventh? He wasn't sure anymore. It was hard to keep track these days.) form and all of the regenerations in the future would remember, but not the previous ones who had truly experienced it.
The Doctor remembered for them. He remembered the time that they all came together. He remembered how they all felt, and as the memories flooded him, he remembered her.
Why her? Why had it chosen her face? Bad Wolf. It followed him everywhere, but not until after that moment, literally the moment. That also brought another question to his mind. Was it because of the interface's choice of appearance that he had been so keen to seek out Rose even after she denied him the first time, or was it because of how Rose had become so important to him that the interface had decided to choose her to show the Doctor? Also, the Doctor understood that the moment was old, older than him, but it was unlikely that it would actually get confused about time-lines. It couldn't be a coincidence. The universe was rarely so lazy. The Doctor found something completely disturbing about that.
While the Doctor's mind was disturbed now, he hadn't shown it during that moment. Of course, he couldn't hear or see the interface at the time, so why would he? He had, however, flinched when he heard the name that she had once used. Bad Wolf Girl, I could kiss you. However, to anyone outside of his mind, it would have seemed as if he hadn't noticed, or he had forgotten. On the other hand, his tenth self had remembered, had noticed, what the War Doctor had said, and he had shown his emotions, unlike the eleventh Doctor. Sorry, did you just say Bad Wolf? His statement was ignored, and they continued with what was a very important mission. The subject had been dropped before it could have even begun.
The point is that the Doctor remembered all of this. Clara remembered all of what she had experienced too, but he doubted that she was as disturbed by it as he was.
“What are you thinking?” Clara asked over his shoulder. He had been sitting on her sofa for over an hour doing absolutely nothing. At first, she had thought he was asleep, but every now and then, he would sigh or make some noise, signaling to her that he was still there and can we please do something; I'm bored. He startled at her question and then relaxed.
“I'm remembering,” he sighed.
“What are you remembering?” Artie asked, perking up. The Doctor had told Artie and Angie countless stories before, and they were ready to hear another.
