Chapter 6

Kate's POV

I still hardly ever talked to Will. I left my door open all the time, and even had conversations with Rose about meaningless things like which color shoes made her look taller.

But he avoided me.

One day while wandering aimlessly around the house, I stumbled across a piano that looked like it hadn't been played in a while. The inch and a half of dust was just a slight indication.

Cautiously, I slid onto the bench and pushed the cover back. I had only plinked a key or two when I heard a voice behind me.

"Do you even know how to play?"

I sighed without turning around. "No. I wish though."

The voice became gentler. "Move over just a bit."

I complied, and Will slid onto the bench.

"Put your left hand on those keys."

"Which ones?"

"Those."

"Point."

He sighed, becoming impatient.

Gently, he lifted my hand and placed it delicately in the right place. And then froze. As I did.

Our eyes were glued to our hands, his resting on top of mine, sending massive currents of electricity through my veins. It was like getting caught in a bundle of broken telephone lines.

Slowly, I turned my hand over and locked fingers with him.

It was several moments until I could find the courage to speak.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I never meant to hurt you."

"I'm sorry I didn't try to help you sooner," he whispered back.

I pulled my eyes away from our still entwined fingers at the same time he did to meet a pair of brilliant green eyes. I felt weak, like I was beginning to swoon. I would have otherwise deemed it an unbecoming quality in a girl to act funny because of a guy, but right now it felt pretty good to have the normal accelerated heart rate and mild goose bumps.

I smiled timidly, waiting for his response.

Instead of returning the gesture, he released my hand and pulled me into his arms.

It felt so surreal, with just the feeling of two heartbeats pressed together.

He was tracing slow circles on my back with his fingertips, making me want to absolutely melt.

After about a minute I muttered "I can't take this anymore," and pulled back.

The expression of bewilderment on Will's face was priceless.

"What's wro-"

He had no time to finish his sentence as I leaned forward to gently press my lips against his. Suddenly, the black clouds lifted, the sun came out, and the

Hallelujah chorus was singing full blast.

Until a very annoying small blonde person interrupted us.

"It's about time, people."

Could she have worse timing?
