Chapter 8

Kate's POV.

I woke up, but didn't open my eyes. I knew that the moment I did so, I would be met with god's idea of a joke: 1 billion watt sunlight streaming through my windows starting at 6:00 sharp.

And then I thought of what was down the hallway.

Eyes were opened, covered were ripped off, and feet hit the floor gently.

Tiptoeing down the hallway, not a sound could be heard even from my footsteps. I was stealthy. Like a ninja.

But not really.

If someone ever did break into the house, they would probably be stopped because I accidentally shoved them down a flight of stairs, and not because I knew how to handle a baseball bat.

Like me, his door had to be closed at night when he slept. Maybe he had the same silent fears of invisible ninjas like I did.

I cracked the door open, but just enough to let myself squeeze through, and not enough to sound like something from a horror movie was coming. I really hate doors that creak.

He was spread out across his bed, hair pushed out of his face, with his favorite addidas sweatpants and a Massive Attack t-shirt on.

I crept up to the side of the bed that had the least amount of him occupying it, and gently crawled onto the bed. Thank goodness for tempurpedic.

Facing him on my side, I grabbed his hand and brought it to my mouth, giving it a light peck, and holding it in place.

He stretched his limbs slowly, opened his eyes, and peered over at me. His face turned to once of a five year old given the keys to the candy shop. By his own mother.

"Good morning," I whispered.

"Yes it is," he whispered back.

Just then, the door was flung open, and a flustered looking small person walked in. I sat up immediately.

"You know, I am REALLY getting sick of this."

She rolled her eyes at me, and then seemed to notice that I was lying on the same bed as her brother.

"Were you two-"

"I'm wearing all my clothes, smart one. No."

She smirked naughtily, and then began a rant.

"Okay, so there's this really hot guy downstairs and I totally want his number but I didn't think I should ask because he looked all serious and-"

"Rose, what did I tell you about flirting with the Fed Ex guys?"

"Shut up, Will! He is DEFINITELY not a delivery guy. Anyway, I noticed that he totally looked like Kate but I didn't want to say anything but then he brought up the fact that he was your, um, oh, crud, what did he say?"

I started shaking profusely. My heart was racing, and the room was spinning. "My brother?"

"Oh yeah! Right! I can't believe you didn't tell me that you had some ridiculously hot guy like that in your family. I mean, it should be a crime to keep that kind of beauty locked up."

I jumped off the bed and sprinted downstairs like Wilma Rudolph in the 400 meter.

I skidded on the marble floor, grabbed the banister for support, and round the corner, only to come face to face with....

Someone's abdomen. Literally. It was like running into a brick wall.

I looked up to see my hair colour and my eyes looking back at me.

He looked shocked.

I hadn't seen this boy in nine years, half of my lifetime ago. And here he stood, healthy and very much alive.

My Landon.

I lost consciousness.
