The Undercover Mission

"Ah FullMetal, you're late." Mustang sits in his chair gazing lazily up at Ed and Al as they walk into the room, Riza stands to his side.

"Yeah well, maybe you should give me more than five minutes to get here after we get the message. What's so urgent anyway?" Ed looks bored dropping on to the sofa and put his feet up on the table.

"You're going on an undercover assignment in a different country." Ed jumps up glaring at the Coronal.

"He isn't going to allow that, you're going to get Winry killed!" Ed yells Al doesn't look too sure about any of this either.

"Bradley approved it, said you had three months to complete the mission." His didn't say it but the implication that Winry would be killed if they didn't come back hung clear in the air.

"No. We have things we need to be doing, or did you forget why I even joined the military." Ed retorted.

Mustang sighed. "The mission is in a place called Japan, they have technology far beyond our own, it could be a chance for you to find something to help you." Ed paused for a moment looking at Al.

Al's soft voice carried through the armour. "We have always wanted to see more of the world."

Ed glared at everyone in the room before dramatically sighing and collapsing back onto the sofa. "Fine, we'll do it."

"Well thank goodness for that." An unfamiliar voice rang out, Ed and Al turned towards the door to see a small rat-like creature in a waistcoat. 

"What in the hell-" Ed said.

"Maybe try to be polite FullMetal, this is Principle Nezu he's going to be in charge of the mission, it's him who came to us for help," Mustang spoke also staring at Nezu still not sure about what he was, "Nezu these are the Elric brothers, Edward is known as the FullMetal Alchemist and works for Military, his brother Alphonse will accompany him." Mustang gestures to each of the brothers as he spoke.

"Is he a Chimera?" Ed's voice was cold like he was ready to snap.

"I am not a Chimera, young man, I am an animal that gained the quirk of intelligence," Nezu explained.

"A quirk?" Ed and Al both asked at the same time.

"In Japan and many other countries in the world people have developed superhuman abilities, about 80% of the rest of the world have quirks, which is why Amestris, Xing and Drachma cut themselves off. Choosing to stay quirkless whilst hiding their Alchemy, and Alchestry from everyone else." Nezu explained.

"Superhuman, like the homunculi?" Ed said in a low voice his frown deepening when Mustang nodded.

"You start right away FullMetal, you and Al go get your things, you're going with Nezu today." Mustang handed Ed a folder containing more details about the mission and Ed stormed out of the room, his red coat swaying dramatically as he exited, Al shot the others an apologetic look before hurrying after his older brother.

"He's a child," Nezu stated looking over at Mustang.

"Ed is many things but a child isn't one of them, not after what he's been through." Mustang said harshly standing from his seat.

"They may not be children, sir, but if they are harmed in any way or you betray them we will come after you, and it won't just be us, those boys have done a lot for many people." Riza glared down at Nezu, who turned and smiled at her.

"As a principle of a school, I can assure you that my top priority is always the safety of children. Honestly, I find it disconcerting that they are allowed to come on a mission such as this." Nezus polite smile didn't falter.
