I love reading. And movies. They take you on a journey without you having you leave the comforts of WiFi and a fridge in walking distance. But I hate teen movies. Why? Well picture the typical plot of a teen movie: socially outcast girl who fancies hot popular guy way out of her league. Bitchy popular gorgeous girl is horrible to her. Something happens and throw in a crazy friend and wham bam the girl had the guy and the bitchy one has her 'comeuppance' and everyone hates her. Ugh! Apart from the facy that nearly every teen movie in the known universe has the same plot they are so one sided. What about the bitchy popular one!? What happens to her?! Well, I'm her. And I'm changing the plot.
You'd expect mornings on a peaceful mountainside to be perfect. Bird song and silence apart from the wind would be the noise I would of associated with this place. Not screechy car tyres followed by sirens and shouting.
"ugggnngg" I groan muffling the wakeup call with my pale punk silk pillow. I run my fingers through my long tangled blonde hair and wipe some drool off my cheek. Shuffling into the tiled bathroom I rub my eyes and yawn. The bathroom is how it always is; a mess. Yes, a pink marble tiled mess with a top of the range suite and a Marilyn Monroe toilet seat (limited edition) but still a mess. "Aphrodite!" I hear a velvety voice from somewhere downstairs. "darling are you up?"
I hurriedly grab a white mini skirt and a white tank top and run down the stairs. I'm still raking a brush through my hair when my mum bumbs into me like a petite, glamorous cannonball. Her face is inscrutable and deadly. Her full lips and dark eyes are hard and filled with anger. She is staring off into the dawn breaking outside our window but I know what she's really seeing.
"Artemis" I say. It's not a question. It's a statement of fact. My mother's jaw tightens. Yep. This is the work of my sister.
