I see him when I look at Adelaide. The same eyes that shoned like new growth on the boughs of trees, free of moss, bright, Youthful.
But he had a gaze that was like cool waters in flames, soft rain on petals, like the sky lightening after a storm.
I could get lost in those whiskey colored eyes forever.
His hair was darker than Addies, it reminded me of rich soil after spring rains, almost black in the shadows. When he stepped into the light it was rich brown, almost an undertone of red beneath the dark.
I think about what it would be like to just be able to be close to him. For his warmth to seep into my being and his comfort without him ever having to open his mou—
"Hey Vi?" Adelaide snickers and taps my foot.
I caught myself staring blankly into addies eyes. Hers were softer.
"Sorry... lost my train of thought"
I get up and walk over to Addies bathroom mirror. I looked up at my reflection, my pale skin against my soft brown hair, like the bark of an oak tree. My eyes are the color of the midwinter sky... and they would be real pretty, to if they weren't so sunken in all the time.
