I notice myself gazing from across the room at him. I don't even bother turning away in fear of locking eyes;I feel like our eyes have conversations of their own.
There was something about Elliot that drew people to him. I guess it didn't hurt that he was a good looking boy; but I was the only one I knew of who had these feelings.
We weren't strangers, either. He's the only boy I feel I could have an immersed conversation, without it starting with an insult and ending with a punchline.
The bell rings and we all shun out of the classroom, and I feel something tug at my backpack.
"Hey Vi"
I wip around and stand eye to eye with Elliot in the doorway. My mouth becomes dry and I can feel my hands trembling.
"Oh hey Elliot, I didn't know you took culinary arts too"
We begin walking down the hallway along side eachother to avoid the eruption of other students just getting out of class.
"I'm not sure if Addie told you but we were thinking out watching the sunrise at the peak of the reservoir before school tomorrow..."
He comes his hair with his fingers and looks at me with his toffee brown eyes,
"And I was wondering if you wanted to meet us there"
and then he gives me a smile that seems so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness— that unexpected warmth rushes through me.
I tuck my hair behind my ear and make out the words "I'm down" but the way it came out more sounded like a squeak while trying to hide the biggest smile.
"cool. See you at 6?"
"will-do, partner"
he laughs and struts to his next class. Partner. I got to be the biggest idiot alive.
