Chapter 12

The next day there was a lot of work to be done so Ali called the hospital & talked to her brother on the phone. He told her to do what she had to do, he was fine, & he knew the ranch needed tending. Chip was also glad that Ivan was there to help her. He wouldn't want her out doing ranch work alone.  So the next few days continued with Ivan & Ali working together through the day & spending some rather steamy nights together as well.  Wednesday evening, Ivan told Ali He needed to talk to some of the guys in town & would be back in a little while for supper.  She didn't think anything of it, but when he came back she heard him in the barn singing. Giggling at his off key rendition of  save the horse ride the cowboy, She knew exactly  where his mind was. 

He came into the house & began washing up in the sink. As he dried his hands he spoke, "Ali What say we go on a real date Friday night?" She turned looking surprised, & he continued, "We could have dinner, then go & visit Chip after?'' He suggested. She smiled & replied "Sounds good to me." So Friday rolled around & after the ranch work was done they took a rather hot shower together. They acutally spent more time against the shower wall than actually showering. Ivan went to the closet & picked out a dress he really wanted to see Ali wear for tonight. He put on his nicest pair of jeans, boots, & cowboy hat. He was wearing his nicest dress shirt.   

They went to the local cafe & Ali felt way over dressed, but was just happy to be out with Ivan.  After they drove to the hospital.  Ivan puzzled Ali when he told her to wait by Chip's door until they told her to come in, but waited wondering what on earth was going on in there.  Finally she heard Chip yell for her to come in. As she opened the door it took her breath away.  The room was scattered in pink rose petals & seemed to have a thousand tea light candles lit everywhere! Chip was sitting up in the chair beside the bed smiling, Ivan was on one knee at the foot of the bed holding a ring out to her & began to speak. 

"Ali, You are the only woman to affect me the way you have. You are a strong wonderful woman, & I AM in love with you! Ali, Will you marry me sweetheart?"  With tears in her eyes, she nodded unable to find her voice & ran to him. she sank down on her knees as he pulled her into his arms then pulled back placing the ring on her finger kissing her thoroughly afterwards. Chip sitting in the corner piped up, "Hey you two get a room, this one's occupied!"  He said teasing them. They pulled apart & Ali told him, "oh,, Sorry I forgot you were there!"  "Well gee thanks,"  Chip smarted off.  Laughing Ali went to her brother &  hugged him,  "Chip are you okay with this" she asked nervously.   "Of course I am, I told you before I can't think of anyone better for you than him, He's a good man I know I can trust him with you, but that being said,,,," he looks to Ivan then continues, " You know if you ever hurt my sister, best friend or not I'll have to kill you, right?"  Looking offended, Ivan assured him the last thing he'd ever do is hurt Ali.  Looking at Ali Chip says, ''I only got one question sis,"  "& what's that?'' She asked,  "How would you feel about a double wedding?"  Wait... WHAT!!!!  Ali looks at her brother shocked to the core. "What? Who?,,, When did you???" She stammered  "Well," started Chip, "you see the last few days I've discovered that me & a certain nurse are in love!"   At that point there was an ear piercing alarm & they all began to get wet. looking up they realized all the candles had set off the fire alarm & sprinkler system in the room! Nurses piled through the door looking frantically around only to look completely puzzled to find the three of them laughing like loons!
