a few months later

"i'm...not that great with heights."

zach and i stood at the top of the eiffel tower, admiring the view of paris at night from above.

"i know," he responded, and i looked around. we were completely alone.

"zach, what strings did you pull to get us to the top of eiffel tower alone?"

he shrugged, turning to me with a smile. "cashed in a few favors. i do have friends in paris."

it was new year's eve, and zach proposed a last minute trip to france, just the two of us. after much persuasion, we were allowed to leave alone, without our family or the boys.

"it's one minute to midnight," he whispered, turning to me after checking his phone. slipping it back into his pocket, he rubbed his hand across my cheek.

"you're amazing."

i gave him a half-smile.

fifty seconds.

he took my hand and spun me around a few times, laughing all the way.

fifteen seconds.

"you're the best boyfriend, you know that?"

ten seconds.

nine seconds.

"i just wanted to say..."

eight, seven.

"i love you," we whispered at the same time.

a wide grin flashed on both our faces.

four, three, two.

"one."

it was so cliché; we kissed.

the fireworks exploded around us as the clock struck midnight.

i smiled as zach pulled me to his side and wrapped me in a tight hug.

today, we exchanged those three words for the first time.
