Chapter 4
Scarlet Brooklyn Grace
I needed to remember to work on Amelieʼs death-glare. Itʼs good, but not perfect.
A wet nose nudged my hand and I looked down at Riley. I could only imagine that she was hungry, so I went into our kitchen and sighed. How could I have let Alba and Gin do some dishes. At least they havenʼt cleaned everything.
Riley barked.
“Food, right. Where is your food, Riley?” I asked scanning our dirty kitchen for any signs of dog food. “Riley, fetch your food!”
Riley just looked up at me, her dark eyes shining with hope.
“I canʼt feed you until I find your food, so help me look.”
I heard laughter behind me and spun around to glare at itʼs source: Gin.
“You lost your dogʼs food?” Gin laughed. I didnʼt even bother to reply. Instead I started turning the kitchen up-side-down; the dog food had to be somewhere.
After making the kitchen look even worse than before, Iʼd found the dog food and lost Rileyʼs food bowl. I swore loudly and heard Amelie gasp behind me, “Thatʼs a bad word, Brook! Donʼt let Mummy hear you say that.”
I rounded on my little sister, but caught myself before I cursed her. Instead I asked sweetly, “Aren't Gin and Alba playing with you anymore?”
“They are, but Iʼm hungry.”
I groaned. There was no way I could or would cook in this dump. But my only other option was junk food, and Iʼd fed Amelie McDonaldʼs just yesterday. Maybe some cheap chinese food? Anythingʼs better than another McDonaldʼs.
“Iʼll order pizza,” Gin called from the living room.
Great! Now I had to pay a pizza for everyone. How can I explain that to Mum?!
“What does everyone want?” Alba asked, entering the kitchen.
I racked my brain for a pizza name I knew. The only thing I could remember was, “Salami please, for Amelie. You can order anything though, really.”
Alba nodded and left, probably to tell Gin, and I started panicking. How can I pay for the pizza?!
I joined the others in the living room, after putting Rileyʼs food in the first bowl I could find.
Amelie was jumping up and down, shouting, "I'm gonna eat a pizza! I'm gonna eat a pizza!" over and over again.
Seeing Amelie that happy about something made my heart soar. This was worth a lor more than getting into trouble for buying pizzas with the little money we needed for other things.
The doorbell rang and I nearly jumped out of my skin. Fuck it! The pizza!
I quickly ran to the door and opened it. A guy was standing there, dressed in a uniform
When he saw me, he went into instant flirt mode. "Hey there! Normally three pizzas would cost you 30$, but for you I'm willing to say 20$." He waggled his eyebrows at me for effect.
The idiot hadn't even checked me out. Was he seriously that desperate? Judging from his looks, I'd definitly think so. Well, I could definitely do with a discount! "Sorry, a chance is going to cost you more."
"I'll offer your the three pizzas for 15."
"Five."
"Ten."
"Deal," I said winking. "Just let me go get my wallet."
By the time I got back to the door, with the 10$, I was surprised to find the door closed and Gin holding three pizza boxes. And he was laughing his arse off.
