Chapter 2

Scarlet Brooklyn Grace

I was determined not to get another detention, so made sure I turned up for the lesson on time. I sat myself into a free seat next to a surprisingly good looking boy. He definitely isn't from around here, or I would know him already.

I sat down, grumbling something about how unfair life is when the boy turned away from his troupe and looked at me. He sent shivers up and down my spine – ones that I'm not sure I agreed with.

“Hey. What's unfair?”

My leg was doing 1000mph and all I could think to answer was, “I got two detentions in one day. A personal record.” Smooth work Brook.

“A girl with two detentions in one day. That's impressive. Do you usually get detentions?”

I shrugged. Teachers often let me off, because of my intense case of ADHD, but sometimes I still cross the line.

“Hey, I'm Markus. What's your name?”

"Brooklyn."

“Brooklyn? That's an unusual name.”

“Problem?” I asked.

“No problem. I like.”

I frowned at him, then turned around, looking down at my desk. I should consider getting my school stuff out.

Mr. Moore walked into the room and greeted us. Scarlet Brooklyn Grace, you will behave yourself.

I managed to get through the lesson without giving Markus my number – he was very persistent – and without getting yet another detention. But now I had to sit through two detentions. Just great!

“Hey Scarlet,” Chloe's voice said from behind me.

I whipped around and slapped her on the cheek.

She stumbled back with a shocked expression on her pretty Barbie-doll face and fell into Chloe-Clone-1, who stumbled too and knocked over Chloe-Clone-2. That was so funny that I had to laugh my arse off.

And lets say that I'm not the luckiest person on Earth, because at that specific moment the headmistress came walking down the hallway.

“Miss Grace, my office please.” Yeah, she knew my name already.

I sighed and followed her to her office. There were two others waiting outside her office and I said a lazy, “Hi,” when I passed them. We all went into Mrs. Stone's office.

“Sit,” she said curtly and we all sat.

I glanced over at the other. I could tell they were close, and the girl had a crush on the guy, that much was obvious from her whole posture.

“Miss Grace, you're here in my office for the umpteenth time. You know what this is about. What punishment will stop you having to come here?”

“You could expel me, then I'd probably never have to sit in this office again,” I offered sarcastically.

“Miss Grace, that's the attitude that lands you in here to begin with. Think of something that might get you under control.” The snake turned her attention to her other two victims. “And why are you here?”

The girl spoke first, “Gin accidentally dropped an eyeball down Chloe's cleavage while helping her cut her own eyeball open.”

I burst put laughing. “The Chloe?” I asked, still laughing hysterically.

Mrs. Stone turned to me and gave me one of her trademark death-glares. But I could out-glare anyone. And I did. I could see her fighting the urge to flinch. Wrong move lady.
