Chapter 6
The next day...
Nick POV
I guess maybe going to the movies yesterday wasn't such a good idea because now I'm sick. I knew it as soon as I woke up. My throat hurts so bad.
I was up before Jeff again so I don't know if he's sick too or not.
Luckily, I woke up before mom left for work, so she gave me some medicine. I probably just have a cold or something.
Mom told me to stay in bed all day, but I decided to go down to the living room and lay on the couch so I could watch tv. I was cuddled up with some blankets, waiting for Jeff to wake up.
Later...
Nick POV
"Nick?"
I turned around and looked over the top of the couch. Jeff was walking towards me slowly.
"What?" I asked.
"I don't feel well..."
"What's wrong?"
"My throat hurts and my head hurts."
"I don't feel good either. My mom gave me some medicine before she went to work. Do you want some?"
He nodded. I got up and got the medicine from the kitchen. It was nasty cough syrup, but it works pretty good. I poured some for Jeff and got him some water to wash the disgusting taste out of his mouth.
"Thanks," Jeff said.
His voice sounded a tiny bit scratchy.
"What are we going to do today if we're sick?" Jeff asked.
"I was just going to watch tv and movies in the living room all day. You can join me if you want."
"Ok."
Jeff followed me back to the living room. I spread out my blankets over both of us. The cough medicine makes you tired, so Jeff was out within 20 minutes. He ended up curled up beside me with his head on my shoulder. I was tired too but I didn't want to sleep because I didn't want to mess up my sleep schedule.
Later...
Jeff POV
"So you're both sick?"
"Yeah. I guess we caught something at the movie theater yesterday," Nick said.
I was barely awake. I didn't feel like opening my eyes because I was too tired. I could feel I was laying on Nick's shoulder and I just wanted to stay here.
"Have you guys taken medicine?"
I'm guessing Nick is talking to his mom.
"We took some this morning. Jeff has been asleep all day."
"You guys can have soup for dinner then. Why don't you wake Jeff up? Your soup will be done in 10 minutes."
"Ok, mom."
I heard her walk away. Nick started shaking me gently.
"Jeff, wake up."
"I don't want to," I mumbled, snuggling into his side.
"But it's almost time for dinner. Aren't you hungry? You haven't eaten all day."
"No."
"Jeff, come on."
I groaned and sat up straight. I rubbed my eyes a little and then followed Nick to the kitchen. His mom was putting our soup into bowls for us.
"I think I need more medicine," I said, quietly.
Nick got me more medicine and some water. And then he took some too.
His mom gave us our soup, and we started eating. I think it made my throat feel a little better. But maybe it was the medicine. Or maybe both.
By the time we were done eating, I was super tired again.
"Can we go back to the couch now?" I asked Nick.
"Dishes first. Then we can."
I sighed and followed him over to the sink. We did the dishes and then went back to the couch. I curled up beside Nick again under the covers. He put on a movie. And I fell back asleep.
Later...
Nick POV
It was getting late. Jeff was asleep on my shoulder. I think we should head up to bed.
"Jeff?"
I shook him gently.
"Hmmm?"
"Let's go up to bed."
"I'm too tired to move."
"Jeff, come on. We need to take some more medicine."
"Too tired."
He curled into me. I sighed. He's being kind of difficult.
I picked up his arms and put them on my shoulders. And then I grabbed him under his arms and picked him up. He held on and laid his head on my shoulder. I carried him upstairs to our room and then went to go get the medicine. I took some and then I gave some to Jeff. After he took it, he was out like a light again.
I got into my own bed and fell asleep quickly too.
