Chapter 9

Later...

Nick POV

I finally managed to convince Jeff to try skating on his own. But he was glued to the wall now. He wouldn't let go of it.

His feet had slid out from under him a few times and he'd fallen. But I don't think he's as scared to fall anymore.

He was actually starting to fall more and more, and I think it's because he's getting tired.

I skated closer to him.

"Jeff, do you want to go take a break and sit down for a little while?"

"Yeah. Help?"

I took his hands and pulled him to the exit. We got off the ice and went to go sit on a bench.

"I don't really like ice skating," Jeff said, leaning against the wall.

"It's just because you're not good at it yet. It's only your first time."

"How long until your parents pick us up?"

"Like 30 minutes."

"Can we just sit here until then?"

"Sure, Jeff."

"Can you help me get my skates off? I need to use the bathroom and I don't think it'll go well with these on my feet."

"Sure."

I knelt down on the floor and helped untie Jeff's skates.

"Can you come with me now?" He asked.

"Let's return our skates first and get our shoes back on first, ok?"

"Ok."

I untied my own skates and we walked down the hall. I returned our skates and got our shoes back. We put on our shoes and then walked to the bathroom together.

"I'm cold," Jeff said, when we sat down on the bench again.

"It's because you're not skating. You're just sitting here."

"Mmmm..."

He snuggled into my side as we waited for the time to pass. I started playing games on my phone while we waited.

Later...

Jeff POV

We were at dinner right now. I was super tired from ice skating. I couldn't stop yawning.

"How was ice skating?" Mr.Duval asked.

"Well I had fun. Jeff didn't really," Nick said.

"You didn't have fun, Jeff?" Mr.Duval asked.

"It was scary and I kept falling."

"It takes practice."

They all left me alone for the rest of dinner. I didn't eat much.

After dinner, we went back to the hotel. Nick went to his parents' room to go play cards with them, but I decided to go to bed early.

Later...

Nick POV

"I thought of another idea for a Christmas present for Jeff," I said quietly, not wanting Jeff to hear.

"What's your idea?" Mom asked.

"So... He brought this book to read in the car and stuff. And he said he's read it a bunch of times already. So I thought maybe we could get him a new book to read."

"That's a great idea. It's getting late though. You should head to bed."

"Ok, mom. Night."

I hugged both of my parents and then quietly crept into mine and Jeff's room. Jeff was asleep. I got into bed and went to sleep too.
