"Cyrus," I whined. "You don't listen to us ever."

He poked mashed potatoes around his tray with a plastic fork. "You don't listen to me."

"We just wish you were more social is all," Buffy shrugged. "I know it's hard."

"You don't." Cyrus says.

I bit my bottom lip and watched his fork scrape his tray.
"You can find somebody that you have a lot in common with, Cyrus. You could have a girlfriend." I smiled. Sometimes I wish I was his girlfriend.

"Or a boyfriend," Buffy interjected.

"Or I just be friends with you guys? And we'll eventually have some weird tv love triangle where theres a plot twist and you end up dating eachother," he rolled his eyes and stood with his tray.

Nearly every time Cyrus says something that resembles a joke, he is inadvertently telling somebody to shut up.

He walked over to the trash can and drops his tray inside. He ate one baby carrot and a few grapes at lunch. I have never seen Cyrus eat much.

"Maybe we should just give him time." Buffy shrugs.

"Or we can scope out potential friends," I said as I scan the cafeteria.

"What?" Cyrus sat down.

"What about Jonah?" Buffy said. "He's so nice."

"No-"

"Or Marcus," I said.

"Or Tj Kippen," Buffy said before giggling a bit. "Can you imagine?"

"I sit next to him in History," Cyrus said. "Seems like a cunt."

"Thats perfect because you're a cunt," I joke.
Cyrus is . . . mean. He's not a bad person, but he really hates talking to most people.

He tells me that his life at Landen was brief, and before Landen he spent almost 6 months in one home in a small town. He said thats the only place he had friends. They were all adults.
One was the local bartender and Cyrus would sit at the bar and drink soda while he read his books.
Another was an older man at the bar that would strike up random conversations about history and movies with him, and do most of the talking.

It's crazy to think that people have an entire life before you meet them. There's so much to learn.

"What did Tj say?" Buffy asked.

"Nothing. His friends are dicks." Cyrus fidgeted with his bracelet. "Asked if I was deaf"

"Well, basketball players hang out with other basketball players. Some of them are dicks." Buffy explained.

"Tj isn't on the team anymore, though," I said.

"Why?" Cyrus asked.

Buffy and I glance at one another. Nobody knows why he quit.

"He quit. Maybe his friends know why, but nobody else does. He quit right after a huge win against Berflea High," I said.

"He could've gotten a scholarship," Buffy adds. "He's been talking about getting one since the first grade."

My heart sank a little bit. Before and after quitting, he seemed less social than before. This year he seems a bit better. Maybe he'll rejoin the team.

"Maybe he's depressed," Cyrus chuckles.

I wanted to be upset about that joke but I very rarely hear Cyrus laugh.

"That's not funny." Buffy gently kicks his leg under the table. "He just changed his mind."

"Or he's a sophisticated criminal and wanted to blend in," Cyrus joked again. He started picking at his sweatshirt sleeve again, staring at it. "Can't be basketball star anymore."

Buffy smiled. "I doubt he's a criminal. He's actually sweet, Cyrus."

Cyrus stared at his sleeve as he plays with it, biting his lip and widening his eyes.
"O-kay" he said in a doubtful tone.

I really hope Cyrus gives new people a chance. Maybe an artist. Someone quiet, but smart.

Instead of editing the chapter, I decided to completely rewrite it and it was much more fun. Sorry for waiting so long to post part 2. The next parts will come faster.
