I woke up the next day wondering why it was so light outside. "Crap!" Did I oversleep? Oh no, what am I going to do? I stumbled out of bed and grabbed my uniform.
*Knock knock*
"Let me in before you change into your uniform. I need to talk to you," Oikawa-san said.
By that time, I remembered what happened yesterday. I sat back on my bed and told him to come in.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Apparently. Why are you still home? Isn't today a school day?"
"Yep! You need a day to rest and to get over the shock."
"I don't need time to get over it. I just need to go to school." I was going to get up, but Oikawa put his hand on my shoulder to stop me.
"You need to rest. Your mind is not prepared to deal with anything. You need to stay home and stay in bed and maybe talk this out."
"But... I just don't want to think about it."
"I know. Nobody likes to think about that."
We both paused, feeling the same thing: pain.
"I'll get you some food and tea."
After he got the tea and food he told me to tell him about the accident.
"I don't want to think about it. Why not just... why don't we just stay present."
"If that will help you."
I'm not the only one that needs healing. You need it, too.
~Next day~
I was able to get up on time today and get ready to go to school. When I came downstairs, I met opposition.
"Lydia, you need to stay home!" Oikawa's mom said.
"No, I know that if I stay home, something bad might happen. I need to be around other people."
"Okay. Just make sure to take care of yourself."
"Yes, ma'am. I'll head out now."
~On the way to school~
Man, I can't wait to go to school; life is happening there. If I get caught too deep in this crap, I'm going to get more depressed.
"Lydia!" It was Yutaro Kindaichi. I was so glad to see my best friend!
"Hey, Yutaro!" I ran to catch up with him. "How's life for you?"
"Normal. What happened with you yesterday?"
"I... I had family issues that I needed to deal with."
"Okay. I'm glad your back. We're going to have a practice match with Karasuno."
"Really? I wonder what they're like."
"My old setter went to that school," he said in a bit of a disgusted tone.
"What was he like?"
"An egotistic king."
"Really? I wonder how the team handles him."
"Yeah. I wonder." Yutaro still looked disgusted.
"Come on! Don't we have an English test today?"
"Geh! English?"
"It'll be fine! I can review you right here and now."
"Fiiiine."
~After English test~
"Do you think you passed?" I whispered quietly.
"How should I know?" He whispered in a frustrated tome.
"You probably did okay. I'm just worried about the Japanese test."
"Hehe. Sucks for you." He grinned the tiniest bit.
I gave that "seriously?" look.
~Lunch~
"How did you do on your Japanese?"
"Ugh! It sucked! Reading those kanji characters. That's what I bombed on. I hate kanji! Okay, hate is too strong a word. I really dislike kanji."
"That's what learning is all about, right?"
"True... What are you going to do for the Karasuno match? Oikawa hurt his ankle, right?"
"You're gonna have to help us on that."
"Hmmm. It's going to be difficult, because I have no idea what their team is like."
"You'll figure it out. I know you will."
"Maybe."
*Bell ring*
"See you in class, Yutaro!"
"Yeah! see you then!"
~Volleyball practice~
"Okay. Let's start our warm-up. We want to be well prepared for the match," Mizoguchi, the assistant coach, said.
"Okay!"
When the team from Karasuno arrived, I felt a bit nervous. I had no idea what they would be like, but I was determined to figure them out!
I saw two second years looking at me, an almost bald guy and a short guy with spiky hair and a little blond part in the front that looked like part of it just didn't have the strength to stand straight. A large-looking but not tall guy came up to them and dragged them off, saying, "Stop staring!" He seemed like the team's captain.
Well that's more than a little unsettling.
