We entered Integra's office after knocking on the door, Alucard not even bothering for a answer, whereas I had the decency to at least wait. Seras was in a corner, but ran forward to "the great Alucard", who, she informed me, was now Master to both of us, since he changed us and all. Integra was behind a desk piled with paper.
"Ah, good." She shuffled some papers before looking up, "I see you have already changed into your uniform."
I had, and it was similar to the uniform Seras was wearing, except I was thinking of changing a few things, like swapping the skirt for a good pair of cargos or something. I hated skirts. Or anything that resembled a skirt or dress or anything frilly for that matter.
"Yeah. But I would like to make a few... modifications. If that's ok with you."
"I don't mind. If it makes you comfortable, and helps you fight better than before, then go ahead."
"Thanks." I tried to do one of those cute shrugs, but I'm not sure how successful it was.
"Your welcome." Integra paused, shuffling through some of the papers she had in front of her. "Now, take a seat. I require assistance with your papers."
"Oh jeez...." I sighed heavily as I sat down. I hated paperwork, and anyone who liked it was crazy."First, your birthplace, date, any religious origins?"
I wasn't sure why she wanted to know, but my guess was she couldn't find that information in any of the paperwork. In fact, it wasn't really recorded officially anywhere. "I was in an orphanage since I was a few days old, so my birth date is estimated, not exact, on the sixth of June, nineteen ninety six. No information was left with me except for my name, which couldn't be traced to anyone who was genetically similar to me..."
"And your religion?"
"The orphanage held sermons for those interested in Christianity. I attended, and believe that a God exists, but I don't follow Him."
"And why would that be?"
"I believe in a different Deity, one from a series of novels. I know it sounds stupid, but I feel closer to this goddess than to God himself.""And this goddess is whom?" Integra leant forward, seeming genuinely interested.
"Nyx, the personification of night itself, and goddess to all vampires. I found her in the House of Night series, and I feel a sort of connection to her, whether she is real or not." I looked down, fidgeting nervously.
"Well," Integra began, "There's nothing wrong with believing in another Deity." She wrote some things down, then looked back at me, "Do you have any skills? Hobbies or interests?"
"I did a combat class. But I couldn't finish it because... well..." I waved my hand around, gesturing to the room in general, "this happened. As for hobbies.. art stuff; computer graphics; equestrian, definitely. I feel as if I have an affinity for horses. For all animals really...""Okay..." She wrote some more notes down, "So you'd be interested in a horse if possible?"
"REALLY?!" I nearly flew out of my chair, "You'd get me a horse?"
"We would like to have someone in the equestrian area, as we need someone to help teach a new group of soldiers for a mounted brigade."
I nearly squealed from excitement, but regained my composure, clearing my throat, "Well, I'm certainly up for it if you need someone as an instructor."
"Good," was all she said in reply.I sat back down as Integra shuffled through some more papers. After a few minutes, she motioned to Walter, who walked forward, automatically saying "Yes, Ma'am?"
"Suri needs to be fitted for a weapon." Integra said sternly, "Take her down to get one when you have time."
"I shall see to it immediately, Sir." Walter stood up and started walking towards the door, "Come, Miss Nightingale. We have some weapon fitting to attend to."I stood and followed silently, still beaming at the idea of becoming an equestrian instructor. Seras jogged after us, and we started talking guns and such, with Alucard behind us. I glanced back at Integra, who gave me a small smile before returning to her paperwork.
