the harsh words Travis said earlier that day were coming back to him. the nightmares were worse and he felt helpless.
sally stared at his bedroom ceiling. his eyes were bloodshot and red from a combination of tears and sleep deprivation.
he knew he had to do something, but what could he do?
his dad wouldn't understand, Ash and Todd would try to help but it never did much. So he decided that he would try to talk to Larry.he rolled over and grabbed his walkie talkie from the table. it was three in the morning but it was worth a shot.
"Larry?"
The quiet hum of static filled the room for a moment before a sleepy voice spoke. "yeah Sal?" He sounded like he had just woken up.
sals felt a little safer knowing someone was there.
"I cant sleep" the blue haired boy had spoken to his friend many times about his nightmares, but he couldn't help but feel guilty for waking him up.
"what was it about this time?" "Travis.." Larry stayed quiet for a moment before saying.
" do you want to come over? mom left for some emergency on the third floor."
"Sure, I'll be over in a minute"he felt bad for larrys mother, the constant hours and difficult work had only gotten worse over the past year.
the walk from sals room to the elevator was almost silent except for the young boys screaming thoughts, everything was piling up and he felt like he was drowning, a tower of his fears and insecurity's was crumbling beneath him. And even though he knew that people were there for him, he felt alone.
sally walked up to Larrys door, he could hear the sound of a random metal song coming from the inside.
he walked in and threw himself onto Larry bed. this had been a common occurrence for the boys in the time that they knew each other.
Larry turned the music down and sat next to his friend. "hey, sally face. whats wrong?" his tone was soft and quiet unlike the sleepy voice that had emitted from the talkie. It gave sal a sense of comfort and security.
"Everything; honestly what isn't wrong?" Larry sighed. "Do you want to listen to some music or talk about it?"
"Can we just jam out for a while?"Larry chuckled and turned the music up louder.
the song was almost loud enough to drown out the yelling in sals mind. he slowly found himself falling asleep despite the blaring metal.
larry paused his game in an effort to not break another controller, he looked over at his sleeping friend. 'where the fuck am i gonna sleep' he thought. typically sal would sleep on the couch or he would bring a pillow.
larry could barely hear his mother upstairs over the song he was playing. he rushed to turn down the music.
He stared at sal
'eh fuck it' he decided to just join sal, they were close friends so sal wouldn't mind, right?
he carefully climbed into the bed trying he best not to wake his small friend.after he fell asleep lisa decided to go and remind larry that sleep is important and the loud music would keep him up. but instead she found him and sal curled up together, small smiles on their faces. She laughed, they were never going to live this down.
