Looking at my parents I say. "Which magazine is interviewing the family?"

Mom looks at the ground. "We haven't had interviews since you left. It felt weird to do it without you. So, we just cancelled it. Is there a magazine you want us to talk to this year?"

Shaking my head I say. "Actually, I'm happy not to be interviewed."

For the rest of the day, I spend it with my family, getting caught up on everything that I've missed out on.

My sister-in-law, Amanda, walks into the room with a baby in her arms. She smiles at me. "Kadence I want you to meet your nephew, Jaxson." She places her son into my arms and tells me how to hold him.

He looks at me and starts crying.

Trying to hand him back to Amanda, I say, "He doesn't like me. You should take him."

She shakes her head. "He needs to get used to you. Now, slightly rock him and he'll quieten down."

My brothers and sisters start laughing at me. I shoot daggers at them with my eyes. "You're all used to holding kids, but I'm not. So, give me a fucking break."

Amanda cups her son's ears and says. "No swearing in front of my kids." She looks around the room at everyone. "I think we should start a swearing jar. Because when my kids are old enough to talk they're going to pick up your potty mouths and I don't want to deal with them carrying on like that." She takes the baby from me.

Dad throws his head back and laughs. "My wife tried that when the kids were growing up. It didn't work because the kids from school taught them a few words I wouldn't want to repeat." He looks at his grandkids who are playing on the floor. "I hate getting old."

Mom places her hand on his shoulder. "We did a good job raising our kids. They have their own families, but we have to wait for Kadence to find a man and get married."

Holding my hands in the air, I say, "I'm not in any hurry to make you Grandparents." Looking around at my siblings and in-laws I add. "That's what you have all them for. If you need another baby one of them will be happy to reproduce for you." I yawn. "I'm going to bed. Can you wake me up before dinner?"

"Sure." Mom hugs me. "Well see you in a couple of hours."

Walking up to my room, my phone goes off and I see a message from Brenna.

I used to work with her at Cashmere Holdings before I was let go.

Once the message is open, I read it.

Brenna: You're not the only one that was let go. Everyone from our department were fired.

Me: Do you know why?

Brenna: Yes, the CEO sold the company and he knew people weren't going to be able to keep their jobs so he let them go instead. I heard some people are getting bonuses. Did you get one?
