Chapter 2
‘Time to wake up greeny’ aunts soft voice wakes me up from my slumber. I always liked the way aunt woke me up, she always did it in such a sweet way, I would always wake up with a good mood. ‘Coffee is ready for you downstairs and so is your breakfast, see you in a bit greeny.’ and away she went. I slowly get up and walk towards the mirror standing next to my door. The poof is as huge as every morning. I brush my hair as I take a good look at myself. Somehow I have an odd feeling about this day. I walked down the stairs into the kitchen, but my aunt was somehow nowhere to be seen. I decide to drink a cup of coffee first, she is probably doing the laundry or something like that. As I pour myself a big cup of coffee, I see a note on the refrigerator. I take the note and walk back to my room as I read it.
“My dearest Imani,
As you probably already noticed, I am not there anymore.
I can’t tell you where I am now, but I will in the near future.
Keep this note with you at all times, it contains very important information.”
On my way up the stairs, I stumble over my cat who suddenly moved beneath me on his way down. I lose my balance and spill the coffee I had taken with me over myself and the note my aunt had left me. I try waving the note to clear it, but it doesn’t work. The yellow paper turns a dark brown, covering most of the light blue colored text written on it with a pen.
As I try to read on, the words become less clear and almost unreadable. There are only some words which I can still figure out.
“... Africa …..
……… tribal eldest ………. past…
… origins ……”
Those are pretty much all the words left. A shiver of worry flows over me as I realize my aunt is no longer with me. I do not know what happened, but I decide to look for her, hoping she could not have gotten much further in this small amount of time. I fold the note in four and tuck it into my pocket.
