Indie POV

The day went by excruciatingly slow before the Alpha and Luna arrived at sun down. My mom secluded herself into her room while Rocco, Chansey, Adelaide and myself distracted ourselves from our brooding by cooking.

"Contenders you have 30 seconds remaining to perfect your dish and serve it to the judge!" Adelaide called out as the rest of us scrambled to finish our exquisite dishes.

Thankfully, I didn't go all out due to my menial skills in the kitchen. So, I was able to finish with a few seconds left, unlike Rocco who was running all over the kitchen like a maniac.

"Chefs, your time is up stop working, and step back!" Adelaide blared out causing Chansey and Rocco to groan.

We stepped back and looked at the pans in-front of us on the island counter. Chansey made a heart-shaped pizza that looked bomb as hell, Rocco made shrimp alfredo pasta and I made a red velvet cake with a smiley face iced on it. Everything smelled great and my stomach was practically thanking me already for the amazing meal.

"Now! The amazing judge will taste each dish and deliberate on which one is the best!" She licked her lips in delight as she dug into the pizza made by her mate.

She moaned in pure satisfaction and grabbed a hold of Chansey's shoulders.

"I'm so thankful you're mine." She confessed which could've been more directed at the pizza than Chansey as she dived in for another bite.  Hearing her say the word mine made my wolf feel a little jealous of their relationship and desperate at finding her mate. I tutted her in my head telling her to be patient and wait her turn.

Before Adelaide could finish scoring our dishes, there was a knock at our front door. Rocco went to open it and as my Alpha said, he came with our Luna. I linked my mother and seconds later she came rushing out of her room and down the stairs to greet them.

"Good evening Alpha and Luna. Thank you for coming to speak with us.  May I offer some food the kids just made? At this point, they might as well be master chefs due to how long they've been doing their little cooking competitions."  We all bowed to the Alpha couple, letting our wolves greet them through our eyes.

Alpha Steven chuckled at the comment as he's been in attendance to countless of our competitions since the times that all we could make were gourmet peanut butter jelly sandwiches.  Luna Jessani smiled and sat down at the circular dining room table as Alpha Steven replied for her.

"She says thank you and everything looks delicious. Now I would like everyone to sit down for this serious matter we're about to talk about." He said as he sat at the table instantly making me sober up from our fun. We all followed suit and sat down bracing ourselves for the truth that was about to be laid down. My mom gripped my hand on the table as Alpha Steven took a deep breath.

So many emotions were rushing through my head, the biggest being fear. I feared the unknown and the capacity it had to change my pretty average life. I squeezed mother's hand back and gave her a slight smile as reassurance that I would be okay. In all honesty, it was more of a reassurance to myself that whatever might happen, I would have the courage I needed to make it through.

"To put it simply, Indie is this millenniums' Elite. You have the gift to shift and rule every realm you step foot on. But, the price you are forced to pay is the danger that you're about to be faced with."

Adelaide jumped up and before she was able to question anything, Luna Jessani pointed her index finger up.

"Please let me fully explain this to the best of my knowledge before any interjection. This is a delicate situation and at this moment, time is precious." Alpha Steven warned staring mostly at Rocco, as he knows how strong his impulse to react a little dramatically is.

"A week ago, your Luna was gifted a dream where the moon spoke to her about a she-wolf in our pack who is the Elite. She was told that the most powerful leaders will have a dream of the Elite and will only know that she is the key to their domination. Alpha Landon confirmed that Indie was the Elite when he came to me with an exchange of 17 billion dollars."

"SEVENTEEN BILLION DOLLARS?!" We all screamed in unison as I was gripping the edge of the table for dear life so I could start rationalizing.

"That shows how important an Elite is but also how uneducated we are about them. So far, we only know the basics of this condition. 1000 years ago, your ancestor was an Elite and in another 1000 years, another female from your lineage will be the next one. Your powers are unknown but they're unlocked when you mate.  So your best bet is to find your mate because this situation is beyond my power and protection. In a few weeks, all of the selected rulers will know about you."

"So why did you accept Alpha Landon's price? Why did you basically turn Indie over?" My sister questioned as her mate grasped her hand to ease her agitation.

"When the rest of the leaders discover Indie, they will fight, most likely to the death. Alpha Landon does not stand a chance against them. He thinks this is as easy as giving us money and taking you. However, like always, he is completely wrong."

I stared at my lap as a huge migraine came on to worsen my situation. I was such in complete and utter shock I felt numb. What was I going to do? I didn't sign up for this shit and it was more serious than I could've imagined.

"Why did this have to happen to my child? Oh my goddess this cannot be happening. How can we get this out of her?" My mother wailed making it sound like I was possessed by some evil spirit that needed to be exorcised. She snatched my hand back in hers to deescalate her anxiety and treat mines like a stress ball.

"There's nothing that can stop this. But, we're going to have to speed up the process of finding your mate in the most discreet manner and Indie must find what being an Elite really entails. For now, Rocco and Adelaide must be with her at all times and I will have guards posted around the area."

"Of course, Alpha." My sister assured him.

As I finally looked up from my lap, the room began to spin. Everyone's eyes flashed to me as I abruptly stood up, releasing my hand from my mother's. I could see Chansey saying something directed towards me but the ringing in my ear prevented me from understanding.

I started making my way towards the front door desperately needing fresh air until my wrist was grabbed. Before my eyes closed, I could see my best friend yelling something but yet again, the flatline in my ears didn't allow me to understand. I opened my mouth to say I was fine, but the words never became audible as I collapsed.
